The argument that seems to be gaining traction is that MLB should be investing in their development and scouting, and that the current system of disregarding women when it comes to developing young talent is a barrier preventing women from playing.

It seems very fair. They make a 24M commitment for his 6 years of team control, and get him up right away, and in return they get 13M, 14M, and 15M options on his first 3 FA years. Easy to see why he'd jump at a guaranteed 24M, and easy to see why the team would lock him in for as many as 9 years, with flexibility.
