So the odds of admin handing the keys off to someone who will maybe try to save this dying forum are pretty low then? It's really sad, what's become of this place.

 

It's always been dramatically less active during the offseason. The only real issues though are the news threads and spam accounts imo.

Approval process probably isn't necessary, but a 24 hour period between when you sign up and can make posts would allow admins to weed out a lot of the spam accounts. Requiring logging in with a social media account (like a lot of sites now require) would likely be a good alternative.

As someone who has a bit of experience in running/moderating forums, I think a downturn in posting on anything Blue Jays right now is to be expected. Usually a board is humming if

a) the team is competitive (like ALCS level)

there have been some major free agent signings/trades

c) the farm is flush and the team is primed for a breakthrough

 

The only boards I've seen that seem to be immune to this phenomena are Cubs and Mets sites.

 

This team is a bubble team. There is nothing less inspiring than a bubble team. We're the freakin' Mariners, but with a fanbase.

The biggest issue here is the constant spam. Nobody New is going to join a forum when the first thing they see when they open the page is spam threads for dick pills or online casinos.

Actually that’s an empty threat. I’ll probably be posting here until it’s just me and Spanky left, but social media login is awful IMO.

Well it would only be to handle the login side of things, it doesn't have to attach any actual social media functionality. It's not like anyone on the forum would have to see or do anything different than they do now. I don't know for sure if it would help or not, but a lot of sites are doing it so there must be some good reasons.

I feel like this is nonsense. The only people who get "run out of here" are the same trolls who have been coming back for ten years, and even there they just get banned and sign up again. I just don't think we actually have a lot of new people signing up in the first place.

Well it would only be to handle the login side of things, it doesn't have to attach any actual social media functionality.
