KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 What do Atkins and Shapiro being more open to the media have anything to do with the State of the Franchise event? A lot of people go there to be able to talk/meet management and partake in some adult beverages and food. Yeah it's more about making the season ticket holder's important by making yourself available to them and pampering them a bit. What's actually said at these things is secondary (though the Beest could reliably be counted on for some real howlers).
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Jays f***ed over STH's... Whooooo Geeeeeefs A Faaaaaawwwk!!! - Ed Rogers. *caught slipping into his limo*

I genuinely did not know this, I thought the event was to clarify the position of the franchise or something, isn't that where Beeston set the "5 year window of success" at? I thought that was the only part lol

I can't stand hearing the same f***ing questions being asked about Edwin all the time. I want to know things about the ST facility, RC renovations, player development focus etc. and I'm not getting those answers listening to Jeff Blair and Bob MCCown.

I think the first one was held at AGO (edit: now that I dig deeper in my memory, I believe that it was at Roy Thompson Hall) but I remember Ash trying to sell STHs on his blockbuster Roger Clemens for David Wells-Graeme Lloyd-Homer Bush deal haha. Almost half of the time is usually spent on general "STH experience" issues.
CrackerJack Verified Member Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 This is a front office that's on Radio more than bad Arianna Grande songs, and they are open and up-front in every interview. There is no doubt that this is about one thing which is money. It's probably half a million dollars to operate a PR event for the group of people who are not really as important in a time of success. But cancelling anything that is considered a benefit to people making a purchase (and it was still listed in season ticket packages at renewal time) it will be remembered next year by STH'ers if this season isn't considered a success. I'm sure $ is a big factor. But it's certainly odd to cancel it just 2 weeks out from when it was held last year. And (as you said) it was promoted in the STH renewal package ... plus my account rep told me a couple of weeks ago that a date for it would be announced soon ... and, with the overwhelming turnout for last year's event (the biggest one ever) ... with all that free food & drinks consumed .. how could they just suddenly realize that it's too expensive to hold again? haha
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 So they're canning it because they know they'll be asked questions they don't want to answer? Ie. The mismanaging of the Edwin situation? They should have brought in agent to explain how dumb he is.
