Agreed, I appreciate feeling loved but a thread like this makes me cringe. Delete or get Gruber/RJF to make a post.

 

Or maybe Hurl can stop being eye-high full of s*** and tell me when I've ever intentionally or directly scared away a new poster.

Not necessarily directed at your post specifically, but I don't understand all the complaining people do about the forum. How many teams have a better message board community? We have tons of posters that have been here 5-10 years, GTDs that are anywhere between 500 and 3500 posts, 3 excellent forum dynasty leagues (and the BBDL), and a more intelligent level of conversation than you'll see almost anywhere that isn't an analytics based site. And regardless of what people like RJF say, new posters that don't act like complete morons are treated just fine.

 

Regarding this thread, the forum's sense of humour is a part of its draw to a lot of people. That King could post a tongue-in-cheek thread and not get banned is part of the appeal. I don't understand where people think the growth is going to come from. There are a limited amount of people that are a) Jays fans, want to discuss the game at a level higher than reddit or facebook fan pages, and c) like the humour and lax moderation. I think the community feel to the forum is probably a big reason why some of the best dynasty leagues you'll find are hosted here. Would this place be better with 25% more posters and strict HFBoards-style moderation? I don't think it would.

Agreed. I don't think we have any problem with new posters fleeing in terror. If they leave, it's probably because the level of analysis is over their head or they're intimidated by the sheer mass of posts here. IMO we don't even really need a routine influx of new posters, we have a vibrant community as you pointed out.

Yeah, I don't think we have anyone fleeing in terror. Quite the opposite actually. They act like idiots, get told to f*** off, die, etc..and then eventually get banned, only to return immediately with another account. They can't stay away. Anyone who comes here and acts relatively normal and stable gets treated just fine.

"People" is just RJF. He's the only person off the top of my head that I can remember ever making these complaints, and he's done it like 4 or 5 times.

 

I'd advise that he f*** off if this place isn't to his liking. Hurl can f*** off too.

The forum has the same internet problems that all do - insults, trolls, weird obsessives etc.

 

But the mods do a difficult job very well - if there was less moderation you'd have the bleacher report cesspool, if there was more you'd have the Orioles hangout wasteland.

 

Specifically related to Boxcar - he's the poster child for the internet personality of "if you have a different opinion to me, then you're a retard" but to be fair to him, he normally apologises if he goes too far, and he doesn't just shitpost.
