The Lugnuts fell to 1.5 games behind victorious Great Lakes for the final Eastern Division playoff berth. Borucki tossed five scoreless innings for the fourth time in his last five starts, tying a career high with nine strikeouts, scattering three hits, picking off a Captains base runner from first base, and lowering his ERA to 2.44 - good for second-best in the Midwest League. But the Captains struck as soon that Borucki departed, scoring three runs in the sixth against Tayler Saucedo (Loss, 8-11). Willi Castro laid down a bunt single, taking second on a Saucedo throwing error, and Jodd Carter followed with an infield single. Calica doubled in both Castro and Carter for a 2-0 lead, moved to third on a balk, and came in on a Li-Jen Chu RBI single. The Lugnuts were unable to muster a response against 19-year-old Captains starter Triston McKenzie and relievers Leandro Linares and Erick Algarin, striking out a combined 16 times. McKenzie (Win, 2-1) whiffed nine batters in six innings, allowing two hits and one walk. Linares recorded six strikeouts in the seventh and eighth, pitching around a pair of hits and a walk. Algarin (Save, 1) notched a perfect ninth, adding a strikeout to put icing on the cake. In defeat, Andrew Guillotte went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, and Juan Kelly drew a walk in four plate appearances to extend his on-base streak to a team-high 27 straight games. Right-hander Josh DeGraaf (5-6, 3.29) starts the second game of the four-game series against Captains right-hander Micah Miniard (0-2, 4.71), set for 7:00 p.m. Saturday. The Lugnuts return home to Cooley Law School Stadium for a three-game series against Bowling Green from August 31-September 2. He's now turning in a very impressive season for Lansing after being a disaster to start the year in Dunedin. 2) John Straka: Straka pitched 5.1 innings giving up 3 hits and no earned runs while striking out 8. 3) Rowdy Tellez: Tellez went 3/4 with a double, home run and a walk. Kings Platinum Arencibia 1) Alvaro Galindo: Galindo got knocked around for 7 earned runs in 4.1 innings pitched.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Tellez continues to rake. I'd say he is the top asset in the minors.
