Down 4-0 early, Pompey led off the bottom of the first with a single and scored on the next at-bat as Goins drove a liner into the right-center field gap for a double. Ceciliani then followed up with a blast onto Bully Hill beyond the right-field wall. "That was obviously big right there, facing their best pitching prospect," said manager Gary Allenson. "We haven't done that a lot." The Herd took the lead in the third as Ceciliani singled in front of a Chris Colabello walk, setting up Domonic Brown with an RBI opportunity. Buffalo's right fielder shot a low liner into right which made its way under the glove of Caleb Ramsey, who scampered back to the ball and fired it wildly to the infield. The two-error play by Ramsey allowed Brown to reach third while both baserunners scored easily for the 5-4 lead. The Chiefs came right back with a tying run in the next inning as Jason Martinson started the frame with a single to left, then came home two batters later on a sac fly. But again it was the top of Buffalo's order that put the Herd ahead in the seventh. Pompey ripped a one-out liner into the right field corner for a double and again was cashed in by Goins, who slapped a single up the middle for his fifth RBI while rehabbing with the Herd. After a grand slam plated four of the first five batters he faced, Chris Leroux settled in to allow just one more hit the rest of the way, finishing with six innings under his belt while striking out a pair of Chiefs along the way. Bo Schultz earned the win with a strikeout in a 1-2-3 seventh. Danny Barnes pitched to the same result in the eighth, setting up Ryan Tepera with the opportunity to pick up his 15th save. Things got a little uncomfortable for Buffalo's closer as Syracuse loaded the bases with just one out. Tepera then induced a pop up and a ground out to end the game. "It's really nice going to those three guys out there," added Allenson afterwards. The Bisons' staff surrendered just one run over 13.2 innings of relief in the four-game set with the Chiefs. BISONS NOTES: Danny Barnes has now retired all 28 left-handed hitters that have come his way while with the Bisons this season…With his third-inning single, Domonic Brown extended his hitting streak to 16 games…Ryan Goins is in the midst of a seven-game streak of his own and is now batting .327 in this current rehab stint…The Herd is off tomorrow before heading to Syracuse and Pawtucket for a seven-game road trip. http://i.imgur.com/3SS57uz.png http://i.imgur.com/akdFvYm.png http://i.imgur.com/7WcxIHF.png Richmond, VA - Connor Greene carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning Sunday afternoon, but could not hold off the Richmond Flying Squirrels in a 4-1 loss. Steven Duggar scored Richmond's first hit with a slow roller through the infield to put runners on first and second with one out. Christian Arroyo would follow that up with a base hit to load the bases. After a passed ball allowed the Flying Squirrels to tie the game at one, CJ Hinojosa smack a three-run home run to left field off Greene. That would give Richmond a lead it would not relinquish. Greene would leave the game after walking the next batter. Matt Gage turned in the fourth quality start of the series for the Flying Squirrels, allowing just one run over six innings. Christian Lopes drove in Emilio Guerrero with a two-out base hit. Guerrero's single in the fifth inning extended his hit streak to eight games. The third baseman raised his batting average more than 50 points over the course of the road trip The Fisher Cats are off on Monday, then kick off a six-game homestand Tuesday night against the Akron Rubberducks. Dunedin entered the ninth inning down 5-4 and pulled out the 6-5 victory for their third straight win. Both teams scored in the first inning. DH Taylor Ard reached base all four times he stepped to the plate including his RBI-double to put the Hammerheads up 1-0. In the bottom of the first, the Jays countered with a pair of runs on a Jansen groundout and an error on 3B Avery Romero. Jupiter tied the game in the third with an unearned run off RHP Francisco Rios. Despite throwing 35 pitches in the first inning, Rios settled down to the tune of seven strikeouts through his first four. In the bottom of the third, Dunedin used three straight hits to plate two, putting them up 4-2. 1B L.B. Dantzler drove in LF Jonathan Davis with a single followed by a Jansen single. In the fifth, RF John Norwood tied the game with a no doubt two-run home run to left field off Rios. Working through five, the Jays' right-hander allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. Jupiter grabbed a lead in the eighth when, with pinch runner Dexter Kjerstad at second, 1B Brad Haynal singled up the middle to score the go-ahead run. After RHP Dusty Isaacs' (W, 2-0) 1-2-3 ninth to keep it a one run game, RHP Esmerling De La Rosa (BS, 2 & L, 2-4) came in for the save with a 5-4 lead. The lead was quickly erased by back-to-back double leading off the innings from 2B Jorge Flores and CF Anthony Alford. After a SS Richard Urena groundout that sent Alford to third, Jupiter intentionally walked the next two batters to load the bases which brought Jansen to the plate. His fly ball to right-center was caught, but deep enough to score the winning run. Dunedin looks for a four game sweep of the Hammerheads Monday night at 6:30 PM. RHP Justin Shafer gets the nod for Dunedin while Jupiter sends out RHP Jeff Brigham. http://i.imgur.com/8J1F3Ep.png http://i.imgur.com/aYXODWp.png http://i.imgur.com/BQQRnLI.png http://i.imgur.com/9JJ5xUX.png FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne TinCaps (15-21, 51-55) scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to walk off the Lansing Lugnuts (18-18, 54-52) for a second straight day, 3-2, in a Sunday matinee at Parkview Field. A day after Carlos Belen's RBI triple lifted the TinCaps to victory in the 15th inning, Fort Wayne used a Brad Zunica sacrifice fly and a Tyler Selesky RBI infield single to record its fifth straight win. Lansing trailed 1-0 nearly the entire game following a first-inning Belen sacrifice fly, but tied the game in the eighth on a two-out Jake Thomas RBI double. In the top of the ninth inning, Connor Panas tripled to right-center and dashed home on a David Bednar wild pitch, giving the Lugnuts their first lead of the game. But Fort Wayne had the answer. Ruddy Giron and Carlos Belen led off the ninth with singles against Kirby Snead (Loss, 0-1), and Nick Vilter's sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third. Zunica knotted the score at 2-2 with a fly to right. Selesky followed with an slow roller past the mound that second baseman John La Prise was unable to make a play on, scoring Belen with the game-winning run. Fort Wayne reliever David Bednar (Win, 2-2) pitched the ninth inning, putting himself in position to notch the victory. The game featured a matchup of top pitching prospects. 18-year-old TinCaps right-hander Anderson Espinoza tossed five shutout innings, allowing three hits and two walks and striking out four. Lansing left-hander Ryan Borucki countered with seven innings of eight-hit, one-run ball, walking none and striking out three batters, requiring only 80 pitches. Lugnut right-hander Josh DeGraaf (5-6, 2.98) receives his first start of the year on Monday at 7:05 p.m., dueling with Fort Wayne right-hander Austin Smith (3-5, 4.21). John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Yep nice day for Alford. Really solid July considering his early season injury issues. Let's see him keep it rolling into August. .255/.366/.826 with 24k, 16 walks, 3 HR and 8 SB. Great walk rate, K rate was down but still higher than you want to see, but it's trending in the right direction now at least.
