Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 I expect Bautista to appeal his suspension and win. That isn't a suspendable play and it sets a bad precedent.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted May 17, 2016 Author Posted May 17, 2016 Bautista suspended one game.

Unless the commissioners office comes out and says it was not in regards to the slide. If it was in regards to the slide then I'd expect EVERY player going forward to be fined and suspended for it.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted May 17, 2016 Author Posted May 17, 2016 Confirmed that Bautista will be appealing.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted May 17, 2016 Author Posted May 17, 2016 John Gibbons suspended 3 games because he returned to field after earlier ejection and "incited further fighting," per @MLB release.
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Bautista suspension for his actions during the incident and his postgame comments, per official release

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Bautista suspension for his actions during the incident and his postgame comments, per official release is that for him getting cold cocked by the Odor or for being held by Beltre? lol what a joke Jose got a game so that the league would get less whining from Texas. If Jose gets nothing they would be looking for more retribution for their perceived slight.

He's essentially just being punished for being disliked. I'm not saying I agree with how he conducted himself but nothing he did normally warrants a suspension. The one game is just appeasement for the whinier elements in Texas.

I think it's more likely that he just wanted to shove Odor back. He never closed his fist and Odor's punch seemed to catch him off guard (to say the least).
vic city Verified Member Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Bautista is a dirty player. He could have killed Odor with that slide! Odor would never...wait...

Hope he learned a lesson, you go raging in someone's face be ready to react, it's called noticing the body language.

Yeah that and just knowing who you are talking to which is this case just happened to be the most volatile player on the opposition.

Jose was just playing his normal tough guy roll that he always plays but this time he got called on it. I don't think he thought Odor would, for lack of a better word "dare." lol bad call. Jose suspension is just to try to stop the insanity. I think we got off light with no suspensions to JD or Pillar. I also think odor got off cheap with 8 games.

I understand why Bautista was surprised. The punch was out of line and something you don't see often in baseball unless someone is charging the mound. I wish he would have been more ready because Odor has a history. I put my money on him over Odor in the octagon. I do think Bautista wont change the way he is and will be more ready in the future to not become a favourite meme for anyone who doesn't like him around baseball. He is an arrogant and proud guy who is going to have to back up his tough guy routine better.

Sam Dyson and Andreopoulos were also spared. the League want's to kill most of it but the rivalry is good for revenues, so they don't want to completely kill the cash flow. Just enough to save face. the same thing they did with Roids through the 90s.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 It was Bautista who started the confrontation by stepping towards Odor..... the league likely considers him the instigator.

Does anyone ever actually expect a baseball fight to escalate to that level? Maybe I'm naive here, but I was pretty f***ing shocked when I saw him get hit like that.

Maybe I'm naive here, but I was pretty f***ing shocked when I saw him get hit like that. two bags of testosterone pushing at each other in a heated exchange... you ALWAYS have to watch the other guys hands. If he curls his fists you hit him because that's what he's about to do to you. Jose was chesting up and thought he was going to scare Odor. I guess he hasn't seen the video replays of Odor's Ty Cobb impressions.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 If Bautista doesn't say anything to the media after the game, he probably doesn't get any suspension. No big deal though, I'm not upset about 1 game. Odor should have gotten more, but likely the fact Jose wasn't really hurt played into it.
