AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 I think we need a three-part solution. 1) A first round pick is too much of a penalty. I understand the need for discouraging lazy player picking (although Fantrax would solve this), but to lose a potential Judge or Albies because you got an inning from Joe Jiminez seems imbalanced. Therefore, I believe the penalty should be any 2nd round pick. 2) Furthermore, since the punishment should be consistent, and since not all 2nd round picks are the same, I believe that the player being punished should have 7 days in which to trade for a 2nd round pick, which can then be the punishment. 3) Since JB paid more than a second round pick, I believe his #20 pick should be reinstated, and he be allowed to pay a 2nd round pick (after trading).
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 OK, so here's where I stand: J4L19, L54, and Greenwood have offered commentary on the decision, and I trust all three of you, so I think you three should decide what to do about this (and spittin should he read this). I've stated my opinions, and have nothing further to add to the discussion. I'm not putting myself though this again though, so I ask that any amendment to the decisions made come with a new rule to eliminate subjective decisions of this nature going forward. We'll put into place whatever you three decide by consensus. Beta move. Definitely not an njh disciple
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 I think I've stated this before, but unless someone is a continual repeat offender I think these punishments are far too harsh. Why not just track them on the spreadsheet, along with whether they've had an effect on any matchups, and then deal with it all after the season in the same way? We can then evaluate whether they had any effect or not, and apply equal punishments to everyone at the same time. We are all playing for the fun of it, so it doesn't make sense to me to be too harsh unless it hurts other owners.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Give out demerits for these types of mistakes, no one wants a demerit, very serious stuff. Three demerits and you'll receive a citation. Five citations, and you're looking at a violation. Four of those, and you'll receive a verbal warning. Keep it up, and you're looking at a written warning. Two of those, that will land you in a world of hurt, in the form of a disciplinary review, written up by me, and placed on the desk of my immediate superior.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 For the 1st rounder if it was the 1st overall pick, and it was me, I'd pull a ConnerP, trade all my young guys/prospects/picks for whatever old vets i could find, then rage quit the league after winning the championship. If it's your 3rd offense and you have the number 1 pick...are you a loss to the league?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Easy solution...go to a paid service and you can't pick up minor leaguers. Well worth the $10 keep decisions like this out of BTS' hands. jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 I'll pay the league fees to switch to Fantrax if we want.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 I'll pay the league fees to switch to Fantrax if we want. consider CBS. I will give everyone my password if they want to see the league I am in (moves are done off site so you can't screw up my near last place team). The CBS draft site is the worst I've seen but the league site is good and stats are emailed to you daily.
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 I'll pay the league fees to switch to Fantrax if we want. I think that should be considered a non-starter as long as multiple owners are on record saying they'd leave the league if we moved to Fantrax.

BTS Community Moderator Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Has anyone said that? Dinger for sure, and I believe Boxy.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 I think we should deport Jim to the USA for causing this mess.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Dinger for sure, and I believe Boxy. Alrighty, yeah we want them to stay.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 I think that should be considered a non-starter as long as multiple owners are on record saying they'd leave the league if we moved to Fantrax. Why? Fantrax is awesome
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 Why? Fantrax is awesome So awesome they don’t even need their own app? Lol
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 So awesome they don’t even need their own app? Lol Yes, that amount of awesome or possibly more. I just love seeing my entire team and farm laid out in front of me all together, nicely colour coded so as to not confuse my brain.
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 Why? Fantrax is awesome This post was legit reported lol.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 This post was legit reported lol. Lol I finally made the big leagues!

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 So, you gents gonna do this? No rush, just want to know if it will be done. I think we need to have a dictatorship style ruling. I volunteer my services.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 So, you gents gonna do this? No rush, just want to know if it will be done. Jim should just be forced to wear a MAGA hat and t-shirt for a day.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 We've heard Greenwood's solution. What's yours? The main problem with AG's solution would be what happens if the team does not have a second round pick and can't work out a trade with one.

Yes, that is my issue as well. I'm also not thrilled about the inevitable of anyone who gets the pick just trading down close to 40.
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 Proposal: If a player you illegally added accrues stats, you are fined the least valuable 2nd round pick currently in your possession. If you do not own a 2nd round pick, you are fined your 2nd for the following season as soon as the picks are generated. Should you acquire a 2nd round pick before the upcoming draft, you forfeit that pick (assuming you didn't have one previously). - jaysblue gets a pick between the 2nd and 3rd round this year - Jim has no 2nd, so he loses his 2019 2nd, or the first 2nd he acquires between now and the 2018 draft.

Makes sense to me but
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 The problem with a fixed punishment is people can then weigh if it's worth intentionally doing it (say on the final day before the playoffs, or worse IN a playoff matchup). Hopefully no one here would do that, but the potential is there.
