KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 They project similarly, and Ottavini just had TJS. They're close enough that choosing either one makes sense. And Devenski could still start. Why would you insert nuance into the discussion when you can just be Keith Law level categorical?

BTS Community Moderator Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Would still like to build a deal around Asdrubal Cabrera for a SP.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Regarding Yordano Ventura, I'm interested to see if following suit of the DDL is fair or if anyone objects to it.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Spittin and I have decided that there won't be any compensation for Ventura. To date, the only compensation has been for Fernandez, and we don't want to set the precedent of compensating owners in every situation in which a player dies. Also, the compensation for Fernandez relative to his trade value was pretty small, and similar compensation for Ventura would be a nearly irrelevant asset anyway.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Interesting, no vote? Figured a comp pick would be fair.

Thats fine, but if that's the route the league wants to go there should be something put into writing regarding what type of player would be eligible for compensation.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Thats fine, but if that's the route the league wants to go there should be something put into writing regarding what type of player would be eligible for compensation. We need to find a place to put the league constitution now that the site is dead, but we use the DDL constitution, including the following rule: Compensation for the Sudden Loss of Very Valuable Players When an owner suddenly loses a very valuable player the league commissioners have the authority to award the owner any compensation that the commissioners deem fair. Situations will be resolved on a case-by-case basis, with consideration given to the precedents set by past awards and the principles previously discussed. Such compensation has historically been provided for the tragic deaths of Oscar Taveras and Jose Fernandez. Compensation can be in the form of draft picks, waiver picks, the right to immediately select unowned baseball players, including those that are not currently owned by an MLB team. Commissioners can consider the following non-exhaustive list of factors: - The age of the player - The quality of the player - Whether the player was established or still a prospect - The strength and depth of the owner's team - The nature of the sudden loss (e.g. - death vs. retirement vs. sudden imprisonment) Compensation will likely not be awarded for unexpected retirements, unless the player is extremely young. Compensation might not be awarded, or may be reduced, if a player with a checkered history has a sudden imprisonment or descent into drugs (or whatever) that ends his career (the logic here is that the player's character and past conduct has already affected their value, acquisition cost, and how much they would have been "worth" on the open market). Ultimately our interpretation is that compensation is intended to help a team stay afloat in the event that they lose a franchise building block and have been crippled by it. Nobody wants to haggle about the appropriate compensation in the event of tragic deaths, and it's largely unnecessary in cases where a team's long term future has not been hindered in any significant way. Considereing that value for Ventura consistent with what was provided for Fernandez would be essentially irrelevant to the team receiving it, we don't think there's a reason to go down that road.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Still no bites on Asdrubal. A reliable SP4 type is all I'm looking for here. Can be an old guy.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 SS is very loaded right now but 2016 Assdribble is DH worth in a 20 team format. 23 HR and a 119 wRC+. I too would be looking to add him if he had even one more positional eligibility. Never thought I'd say "too bad he's SS-only."
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 Looking to move a SS prospect for another position prospect. I have according to Law (lol?) 2. Swanson 3. Rosario 43. Adames and Giants top 2 prospect Christian Arroyo Would prefer to move Rosario or Arroyo.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 Also can we find a place to post the rules? I'm a newb when it comes to the 20 team dynasty leagues and need to go over them before the cutdown.

That's pretty cool. I took a flier on him a few years ago in a couple different leagues because of scouty stuff and I guess sometimes these guys are right.

Like...it seems way too high for him but really what do I know?
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 Law likes my boys. 6. Bellinger 29. Smith 38. Brinson 53. Gordon Bellinger and Smith are aggressive, and Brinson seems low. It seems almost egregious that David Paulino isn't on there though. I also thought Mateo and Quinn had a good chance.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 Law loves my farm, not sure that's a good thing... 7 Michael Kopech 9 Austin Meadows 18 Francisco Mejia 25 Tyler Glasnow 31 Alex Verdugo 71 Josh Hader 72 Sean Reid-Foley 92 Christian Stewart
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 2. Swanson 3. Rosiro 37. Martes 43. Adames 69 Sisco 96. Hoffman
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 19. Brendan Rodgers 41. Isan Diaz 42. Braxton Garrett 46. Yadier Alvarez 63. Ian Happ 68. Kyle Lewis Bregman top 5 and Contreras top 30 if they were eligible I'd guess. Could still use a crown jewel at the top, for this bottom feeder team.

I don't know about you, but if I have the chance to acquire the prospect version of Andrelton Simmons (minus the bat control) I do that first and ask questions later.
