Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Has no one mentioned intentional wok? I don't know if he would be interested, but - no offense to the new guys - he has established his reputation as an active and knowledgeable poster who got admitted to replace Frag in the LOD, and I think should be given preference over the new guys (not necessarily over TCA since he has a longer track record).
spittin Verified Member Posted December 22, 2015 Author Posted December 22, 2015 If the point of this league is to take people we know are active with good fantasy knowledge, then we probably shouldn't take a new person. Frenchsoup should probably be first in line to take over a team in the LOD or BBDL when a spot comes up. It might not hurt to give burlingtonbandit a spot, he has a track record in the hockey league and he's always posting on the board. I could look for a comanager in the bbdl which could give Frenchsoup an in and I might be willing to hand over the keys eventually if all goes well. The last spot could go to one of the DDLrs -- Jays_Fever, TCA or zero's.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I don't think I'd be interested unless it was replacing #LOD. I love drafting as much as the next guy, but consistently getting a new team sort of waters down the appeal of a dynasty to me, which is watching my roster evolve.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Seems like everyone has a different idea of what this league is supposed to be. Some people want new owners involved. Spittin told me personally that it was an elite league that would only work with a "maximized talent pool." The existing batch of participants seems to be BBDLers who are bored with that league and want to start a new one + some DDLers. I wonder if people have thought about just re-booting BBDL. Joining another league is going to cause those with poor BBDL rosters to neglect that league even more. And then the result of this league will probably be the same as other leagues (Greenwood, Cyborg, GD, etc. zooming to the top) and then what do you do? Start another one? I think Greenwood's ideas are interesting. I may be open to managing the team that finishes last in 2016. I can't join right now with other leagues and stuff happening. Not having NJH hurts too. How many of the ~23 interested parties have bad BBDL teams? Abom, Orgfiller, and L54? I don't think this is a case of a bunch of BBDL members fed up because talent is too highly concentrated at the top of their league.

Yeah, having a bad BBDL team is not at all the reason why I want to join this league.

I think you're underestimating the guys we have, it's probably the best group possible minus you and NJH. The "elite talent" idea is out the door but with the guys who still expressed interest it made sense to go ahead with it. You're probably right about the BBDL situation but remember it was basically open to anyone to join so that left us with guys like Wilko, Randy, Ang (doesn't seem to care anymore), BabbaGanoush etc. That's not going to happen with this group imo.

He hasn't made one transaction in LOD or posted at all, no idea what his interest level is.

Org and to a lesser extent L54 and Greenwood inherited s***.

I could use a true ace and definitely some better pitcher health, but I'm pretty happy.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Where have you sensed that there's little interest in the league? It's quite active, especially the guys you named. Should also be noted that AG, Chappy and L54 all expressed interest and were chosen to replace less active/detrimental (wilko, Randy) owners.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 It's BBDL owners with bad teams and those with great teams who seem to be bored with it. There's not a whole lot of intrigue in that league, from what I've sensed as a co-manager. There's been good discussion and trade activity all winter. People don't seem particularly bored to me.
JG34 Verified Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 The BBDL league may not seem active to outside observers, but if they saw how many posts were on the Yahoo Smack chat they'd know better. I mostly want to try my hand at another dynasty league because I went into the BBDL draft with the "Look at all Pedro Alvarez's dingerzz, better draft him quick!" mentality. I'll still be very active in the BBDL watching the beautiful creature that is Kyle Schwarber carry my team to another playoff appearance in '16.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I wonder if next offseason will be the first in years with no dynasty draft? pre-2013 = DDL pre-2014 = BBDL pre-2015 = LOD pre-2016 = this league
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 jaysfever should get a spot if he wants one. I still don't know if TCA actually wants in, or would be happy to defer a spot to frenchsoup or burlingtonbandit if they want in. TCA: PLEASE RESPOND I think it'd be fun, and I like making trades, and the settings being discussed in this league are by far the best to play with. For dynasty leagues I'm already in the DDL, LOD, WTPDL. So if you guys do want to run with some new guys that'd be completely fine with me, I wouldn't be hurt. I'd also be fine with doing some ass reaming in this league too. Totally up to you guys.

Is there any fantasy site that allows you to have multiplies of players in the pool? Like 2 Trouts..
spittin Verified Member Posted December 22, 2015 Author Posted December 22, 2015 It's hard to talk trade with several owners and there are a handful of poor and/or inactive teams. Although connorp is inactive and he won the title so it's not necessarily difficult for these teams to get it together. I'm not trying to disparage that league, I'm just reporting what I've gathered the sentiment of some owners is from talking to GD, who talks to other owners. I understand that you and Abom still find it fun and that's great. Anyway, is this league going to be a near-clone of BBDL/DDL from a keepers perspective? I think it could benefit from measures that seek to improve parity. Are you getting at less keepers? Like 15? Could be interesting, basically throw away all relievers, back end pitching and bench players. Gives a better chance at finding diamonds in the rough and strong rebound candidates?

BTS Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Can someone please ban North from this thread? Recommending the we diverge from a formula that works is easy when you're not even in the league.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I'd probably back out of a league with less than 20 keepers. Yeah, you'd either have to go small (like 10 keepers or less) and make it essentially a redraft where you could keep a small core, or you need to allow people to build dynasties. I'm in favor of the latter. I do like the flexible keeper idea between the majors and minors though. I could also see possibly allowing the worst teams an extra keeper slot or two to help accelerate their rebuilds.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Did one person offer up the purpose of a Dynasty League be "fun" or "entertaining"...just wondering.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 (edited) It's too bad that the trend of ever-deeper leagues seems to have ended with LOD. I'd be down for a 20-team AL-only with unlimited farms but it's hard to drum up interest at that level. I was thinking more along the lines of two 20 team dynasty leagues, but with a promotion/demotion thing. If you're promoted or demoted though you get to take your team/prospects with you. So each league would start out with only one of each player, but after the 1st season say one of the teams getting promoted has Trout, there'd be 2 Trouts in the top league and none in the bottom league. You'd still be able to make trades with all 39 other teams though. Edited December 22, 2015 by The Cats Ass
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I can only really comment on the DDL, but I don't see an issue with parity at all. The most knowledgeable owners, who have made the best moves have the best teams: silvergun, Dinger, North, njh, TRM, the guy who got to draft Trout etc..., then there's a middle tier of teams who have made significant mistakes that have prevented them from joining the top tier, followed by a group of teams that have made very bad choices and aren't competitive. If you want to join the top tier, or even contend for the playoffs, you are given every opportunity to do so, but you're going to have to make good moves. There's a reason why we're coming up on four years with all original owners: the league is basically perfect. Diverging from a formula that works just for the sake of being different, is ill-advised I think. We have 20 very good guys on this list, and have a chance to have a very, very good league.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Who are you to say that? This league's commissioner has made it clear to me that he's interested in my perspective. It seems obvious that your goal is experimenting, and not actually coming up with a good league. Which makes sense because you're not in the league. And the things you're saying aren't even true.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 DDL format + 20 best owners + NJH's keeper idea = ideal
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 DDL format + 20 best owners + NJH's keeper idea = ideal Basically this, and we start drafting in January so we're finished before a bunch of pitchers blow their elbows out mid draft in ST.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Basically this, and we start drafting in January because it hurts so gooooooooooooooooood. Yup
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Damn it JG you fn bastard..lol.. I really wanted Ace as my co-manager to run the farm side of things. With the de-valuation of picks in these leagues it makes more sense to draft now
