spittin Verified Member Posted December 22, 2015 Author Posted December 22, 2015 I don't feel like it's fair that only the last few spots get decided. Anyone who wants in should be subject to scrutiny imo. I wouldn't want to reject a guy like Jaysfever just because he was late indicating interest. Every player on the list has made the playoffs in the leagues I'm in, and I know Dinger has in the DDL, so there's that.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I can't believe I'm going to be admitted into a league without a poll.
spittin Verified Member Posted December 22, 2015 Author Posted December 22, 2015 Anyone with a better name suggestion? Unfortunately Premiere league is already taken and Elite League isn't going to fly so some suggestions would be appreciated. Something that's kind of short and works well with a .com or .ca is preferred.

AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 How about the BB Invitational. Would be cool if we cycled out the bottom three teams every year, to make room for new winners, and guys from other boards who want to get in on this. That way, to build a dynasty, you would have to remain moderately competitive each year to keep your team (kind of like real baseball).

But then you would have to give any new member at least a couple years before subjecting them to the bottom 3 rule. If someone comes in and takes over an albatross roster, it wouldn't be fair to kick them out at the end of the year if they finish bottom 3.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Also you might run into a problem where the bottom teams would be making some extreme win now moves to try to not be eliminated and in doing so hurts the overall league.

Valid point. Could set certain rosters up for a cyclical roundabout between the mid tier and bottom feeders with no hope in site. I'm actually in favour of injecting new blood into the league via this method. I would propose the bottom 3 teams get replaced every year. When a team is replaced the new team owner is given a bye in their first year and must produce results by the end of their second full year of running their team. The bottom 3 teams will always be any team that does not meet this criteria. Ie. If after the first year 3 new owners are brought in and 2 of them finish in the bottom 3, then the two teams directly above them who are not new members will be replaced. Following this method, the top 14 teams will always be protected and we give new members a reasonable amount of time to get out of the gutter.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 And if we replace three teams each year, then we have a reallocation draft, so the three new teams get to draft from the player pool of the three teams, to keep it a little more exciting for new entrants.

I agree with this. It gives the new entrants a chance to have some say in their team and will give a savy owner a chance to get their team on track to better results.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 It'll never pass through the entitlement generation though. They seem to feel that 'a real dynasty league' means you can have a krappy, inattentive owner that wallows in last place year after year, until enough of those 1st round draft picks click at the same time. Personally, I think everyone should have a little incentive to try to build a good team all season long.

Give your head a shake man.

There's several ways to build a dynasty contender, loading up on youth and watching them blossom is one of many ways. If people are running the risk of getting cut from the league you'll be finding that the top prospects that are a year or two away and 1st rd picks won't be as valuable to the bottom 5 teams. Then, the teams that are certain they won't be cut will be able to try to take advantage of loading up the farm by lowballing for 1st round picks and top 50 prospects.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 There's also a way to get rid of crappy, inattentive owners: you kick them out.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 It's like nobody ever heard of trade deadlines. I knew it wouldn't fly. Too many guys planning on being in last place, I guess. Oh well, at least I had a couple supporters this time around. Better than last time I suggested it.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Having relegation in a dynasty league seems like a good way to have some reeeeeeeeeeeeally bad organizations in a league.

BTS Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Looks like connorp has been added to the confirmed list. That leaves two spots for catsass, jaysfever, frenchsoup, and burlingtonbandit.

BTS Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Kinda hard to turn down DDLers.. jaysfever should get a spot if he wants one. I still don't know if TCA actually wants in, or would be happy to defer a spot to frenchsoup or burlingtonbandit if they want in. TCA: PLEASE RESPOND
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I say give the keen new guys a chance to join one of these leagues and show their stuff. No point in twisting the arm of someone already in two leagues.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 If the point of this league is to take people we know are active with good fantasy knowledge, then we probably shouldn't take a new person. Frenchsoup should probably be first in line to take over a team in the LOD or BBDL when a spot comes up.
