Laika Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Jayson Stark @jaysonst 58s59 seconds ago Source says Astros & Phillies have talked about a package for Ken Giles that would center around Vincent Velazquez, plus 2 more prospects why wouldn't they just put Velazquez in the pen and keep the prospects lmao wtf is happening in baseball right now. it's like the entire sport is drunk.
ClevelandBrownsFan2 Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Interesting read on why there might not be much chatter on Heyward (Verducci I know, please don't get angry) http://www.si.com/mlb/2015/12/09/jason-heyward-free-agent-winter-meetings tl;dr Lots of managers are old-school and still care about things like RUNZ Any chance one of the managers quoted is Gibby?
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 "Put him in Yankee Stadium and he could hit 25 homers". - Not sure what stadium he plays in has to do with his ability "With his swing he could all of a sudden not hit" - Even though his swing has worked for him all 6 years he's been in the league"\ "But let’s remember, he’s a corner outfielder. He doesn’t play in the middle. You better love, love, love corner outfield defense to sign him.” - Not surpising since GM's have been trouting out plyons in left field for decades " Really every quote in that article just gets worse. It's actually pretty depressing that these guys still continue to get hired
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 My biggest takeaway from that article is MLB needs better managers.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Vincent Velázquez for a reliever. Woah. What's next McCullers for a dh. Luhnow shouldn't drink with Stewart and talk trades
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 If Heyward is only going to cost 180-190 Million Jays really should make a big push to sign him. I understand Shapiro isn't a fan of tying up a lot of resources in one player but he makes the team so much better. If you dump Revere he is only going to cost an extra 12 Million this season anyway. Even if RC isn't the best fit for his GB swing the benefit of being in a such RH heavy lineup will make up for it.

So we can assume that winter meetings is a big binge week to get liquored and talk trades. As Mr. Lehey would say " The Liquor is calling the shots now"
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 The craziness of this off season has kind of made me glad the Jays are taking the boring route, even though I still foolishly refresh Twitter hoping for any Jays news whenever I can.
sdyment Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 After what Miller fetched... Yes Please Mr Shapiro!

Followthelight Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I'll be shocked if the jays trade hutch.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Shapiro says he's getting the calls? Shapiro acting GM confirmed
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Would not be a fan of selling low on Hutch.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Not a fan of selling low on Hutch. You're a fan of selling low on other players?
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 You're a fan of selling low on other players? No.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Would not be a fan of selling low on Hutch. I doubt the Jays are either. They'd get a fair market haul.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Im not really sure why Shapiro would say this btw.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I doubt the Jays are either. They'd get a fair market haul. His value is probably pretty low league wide considering the season he just had. I think he can be a number 3 starter, but I highly doubt his value is that right now.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 JJ Cooper @jjcoop36 3m3 minutes ago Too early to say this is set in stone but two sources say Phillies will take Rays OF Tyler Goeddel No. 1 in tomorrow's Rule 5 draft. More for the Phillies are smart now file.
King Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Sounds like Justin Wilson is on the move from the Yankees to the Tigers, for Luis Cessa and Chad Green. I liked Cessa when he was with the mets, SS converted to RHP, power arm. All unconfirmed, though.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 So apparently the Blue Jays don't hedge USD/CAD. Critical mistake as they likely cost themselves 15-20%.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 So apparently the Blue Jays don't hedge USD/CAD. Critical mistake as they likely cost themselves 15-20%. lol @ "critical mistake" You have no idea what went into this decision.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 lol @ "critical mistake" You have no idea what went into this decision. Well considering they lost 20-30 Million on the decision it was a mistake. Rogers would have lots of smart people who could have foretasted the dollar dropping.
Gorlak Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 You can't hedge in perpetuity. Who would have guessed a few years ago oil prices would be a major hindrance to the Jays.
JoJo Parker Dunedin Blue Jays - A SS On Tuesday, Parker was just 1-for-5, but the one hit was his first professional home run. Explore JoJo Parker News >
