This really bugged me too. And even after Sanchez was publicly stated to have dropped in the depth chart a couple of weeks ago. He just gets the f***in job right back. Just ridiculous.

Sanchez's role should be "we need a DP vs. a righty now!", and not much more.

LH batters were only 3-10 with 3 singles and 4 K's vs. Sanchez in this series. He didn't allow a single RH batter to reach base.

I think people are being a little hard on him, as he did a really good job overall and pitched in every game.

Just use Sanchez correctly as Cyborg ^ said. Overall in a small sample size he has been ok. But we don't need to use him in those situations. Whether he touches 100 or not his secondary pitch command, especially against LHH, is a recipe for big innings against us. I'm not a hater....just a "wise user" of the guy lol.

It's not the sample size people are pissed about. It's his body of work from 2015 + the better K options in the bullpen. There are very good reasons why using Sanchez like this is sub-optimal.

Short of needing a DP, there are no circumstances in which Sanchez's contact outs are more desirable than the Ks guys like Lowe or Hendriks can provide.

Hell, even in a DP scenario I'd prefer the Ks. Ideally the fielders should never even have to field.

All I was saying was that people shouldn't blame Sanchez himself. It was getting a little out of hand; the guy performed admirably.

Do you think Sanchez is a better reliever than Hendriks or Lowe, though? That's what it comes down to.

There are situations where I think he is better, yes.

That's fair.

Oh yeah, I don't blame him either. He is what he is right now. I'm really only criticizing management for the way they use him.

Yes he peformed admirably given that he wasn't put in the best situation to succeed and I don't say the later to knock on Sanchez because to be fair it wouldn't have been the best position for anyone other than Cecil. It's not all on Gibbons fault that the pefect reliever for this matchup had to be removed from the lineup. We're quiblling about a plan B here.

@ArdenZwelling: Cecil threw a side today on flat ground pain-free. Says he feels like he'd be fine off a mound now but hasn't done that yet. #BlueJays

Amazing! Too bad he can't come back for the Royals

In general, yes. When a K is needed, one of those two would be better. Most other situations, Sanchez is the better choice.

I am curious what you think those situations are and I assume we are only talking about high leverage/late innings..

There's no doubt that his stuff is electric but the fact is that he is not a swing-and-miss guy and most of the top/elite closers are; typically over a K/inning. I guess the closest comparison I can see is Melancon as they have similar K/9, BABIP,etc. But then isn't Melancon more of an exception than the norm?
