With Mark Buehrle starting, it takes balls to want to start a GDT, knowing there's a good chance that he might struggle again on the mound and the outcome might not be favourable. So you might as well allow someone who's balls are big, bouncy, and blue as well start it.

I would like to see the Blue Jays start to use Hutchison from the bullpen since I don't think he will be a starting pitcher in the playoffs.

 

I think it would be almost criminal for Hutchison not to be on the 25 man playoff roster.

We don't have to make that decision now....good execs gather as much information as possible and then make decisions. We have today....HUGE series against NYY....Rays twice and O's to end the sched. Lots of tough ball ahead.

 

Lets see how it plays out and make choices with maximum intel.

With Hutch as a long man/insurance starter, it frees up Hendriks to get more late-game opportunities over the next two weeks. Inserting him into the mix with Lowe, Cecil, and Osuna should be a good way to inject another impact option into a tight game. Sanchez should be relegated back a bit, IMO. Lowe-Hendriks-Cecil-Osuna should be a good foursome, especially if used with enough fluidity.

They don't have to make the decision on the 25 man roster today, but to get intel they will have to give Hutchison appearances from the bullpen to see how effective he can be, but initially it will have to be in low risk situations.

Yup....that's why I pointed to lots of tough ball ahead. You may see him today in long role if Mark B struggles (which,sadly, I expect).
