Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Pillar is getting flak because Tulo is a superstar. I get it, everyone, including me, is disappointed he's hurt. But in a team sport, you put star status aside. The superstar doesn't make the play because he's a star, he makes the play if it's his play. And position determines plays. The CF has first priority in the outfield. He has the right to call off the RF or LF for any ball because he's the CF, same for calling off the 2B and SS in shallow centre. That's baseball. Doesn't matter who the other players are, star or replacement level. Makes for consistency. Can't have the same ball one day be Tulo's and the next day it's Pillar's if Tulo has the day off and a AAA is playing. It's the same in every sport. The person with the best view from the back takes priority on defence. In baseball, that's the CF; in soccer, its the sweeper (unless the goalie calls him off), etc. Pillar may be reckless at times, but he's the CF, it's his ball. Doesn't matter if it's Tulo/Bautista or Kawasaki/Carrera; the CF has priority. I think Tulo would have probably been ok if Pillar didn't have such a jewy chin

Governator Community Moderator Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 This is what I remember him being like Wall scrapers for dayyyyss. That D though is pretty Goins like.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 So who get's the start now? It's going to be 50 shades of putrid regardless of who's in there but I got to think Pennington would still get majority of the playing time.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Pennington's bat is about 20 shades of awful. In the last 4 years among all qualified hitters, Pennington has the 20th WORST wRC+ in all of baseball (9th worst among all qualified SS). He is legitimately a liability with the bat. Barney can at least do something. Not to mention Barney is actually better defensively than Pennington at 2B. Yup...but Gibby says Penny will be starting at 2B and not Barney.....just cause dat Penny. He is a big strong small guy with dat pesky bat and glove.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Pennington, Goins and Barney all are exactly the same player. A platoon makes sense. I think that makes sense but at this point that's not Gibby's plan.
TBJESE Verified Member Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Pennington, Goins and Barney all are exactly the same player. A platoon makes sense. Darwin is by far the best healthy MIF bat against LHP. Pennington + Goins/Barney platoon is probably the best tactical move, though I could see why Gibby might want to give Goins more experience against LHP given that he'll definitely see some in the playoffs.
