GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Guys - we've hit Navarro and Colabello 4th in the past week. We don't have 6 middle of the order run producers. Tulo Donaldson Encarnacion Bautista Martin Colabello? Goins?

That has more to do with lineup construction, we definitely have 4-5 middle of the order bats when everyone is healthy.
Hawkins Verified Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 This may not be the time to question where Tulo hits in the line-up. When he starts we win!

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 (edited) Tulo Donaldson Encarnacion Bautista Martin Colabello? Goins? I love Martin, but lets be honest, he's regressing back toward his career averages with the bat. He's not a middle of the order run producer. The Smoak, Martin, Pillar, Goins, Revere pretty damn ugly at the plate right now (albeit amazing in the field). It would be really nice to get Travis back soon and this Valencia BS could really hurt us. Mushroom's the only bat we have on the bench of any use. It's really a shame that Saunders has been (and will likely be) a zero for us. Really hoping Pompey can come up in September and give the bench (or LF/CF) a shot in the arm. He's about 17% above average and the power might be legit (new article around 4 PM!). I'd call Martin a nice middle of the order bat.

I see one season with a wRC+ over 103 in the past 6 years and someone who's wRC+ is dropping as the season progresses (he was likely 25% better than average leading into August). Hopefully it's just a little slump, maybe he's hiding an injury or maybe he's just regressing back toward his career numbers....who knows. If you're just going to look at wRC+ than I guess Colabello should be right up there and he would make the bakers dozen...I just don't buy it.

His two seasons above 103 are this season and last season, though, the two most relevant seasons when projecting his future performance. He's projected to be 10% above average or so, which seems reasonable, and again, a nice bat at #5. I think it's close enough that it might just be semantics at this point. Colabello might actually be a legit awesome hitter. Not Bautisian obviously but very good regardless. Hits the ball very hard. Problem is of course he's literally useless aside from that
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Agreed That's a pitcher's nightmare having to face those three in the 1st Exactly. And since they're more likely to cause havoc, the gauntlet has a higher chance of appearing again in the 3rd.
