Hendriks gives up a single or two and gets pulled from the game.

Gibbons doesn't even know who his best players are. It's incredibly frustrating.

Also bringing in Loup for Delabar, when all Delabar did was get the grounder he needed.

What was the terrible call running there...or pinch running with the 3rd slowest guy on the team.

There wasn't anybody else. That call was so bad, as hitters tend to get a little more aggressive with the runner moving. Although it's not generally a bad call, in this case with who was running and who was behind the plate with a K type pitcher made it a bad judgement play.

I don't think Donaldson was even there

so it was goins or no one...

Soccer is trash. Plain and simple. I didn't insult you. You're the one freaking out and causing problems. This is a Baseball thread. No more soccer. You have made several posts about soccer.

The beautiful game is trash? Get a life you clown, plain and simple.

With the All-Star break, I wonder if major changes will be made during the time off (trades, firings, etc.)

Amazingly, the Jays are still in contention (4.0 GB/4.5 GB). Yet, outside of the Yankees, no one in the AL East is making much noise.. and it's questionable how the Yankees will play in the 2nd half, especially with questionable starting pitching.. they can't expect to keep hitting their way through the season.

BTW, did anyone notice Houston's meltdown? The long awaited regression on that team has finally hit.. with an Angels win, LA will be in first place, and the Astros will be the team to chase. And that team has a difficult post All-Star break sked and no sign of when Springer will return.. and they desperately need another SP.

Hendriks has been one of the team's best relievers and is now relegated to blowouts. He had a bad outing the other day, but if you look closely, it was marred by bad defence in LF.

Anyway, lots of blame to go around. First thing this team should do but won't is to bring up their 2 top prospects to improve the team, I'm talking about Randy Wolf and Munenori Kawasaki of course.

There is a difference between being close to a playoff spot and being in contention.

We need a LF and a SP at minimum at the deadline. But I'd prefer someone with multi-year control.. we're not in a position to rent. LF should be easier to find..

in a normal year in the AL east Jays would be 10 back now/ But luckily it's been so far weak overall in the East

So Donaldson wasn't even with the team today, but will participate in HR Derby?

This would seem odd.

if he had a fever yesterday, he probably wasn't getting used today. It's not horrible for the team to let him stay home.

6 back in the loss column, which is concerning.

Yanks have 2 games in hand. And we're 4 in the loss column with a collapsing Astros team. And considering that team's youth, struggling offense, and lack of SP depth, especially once their young arms hit innings limits, and still no George Springer, a 2nd half collapse in Houston is very high..

We need at least 1 starter and bullpen arm .aybe 2 starters.....not going to get that in trades.

Gibbons has cost this team wins....amazing. aa should be fired for hiring Gibbons alone.

No one in the AL East outside the Yankees is a playoff contender at this point. Basically, they need a Houston collapse or the Yankees to regress. (the Houston collapse is more likely.)

I have a feeling that Boston will be very strong in the second half

A strong argument has been made that the East is not weak, it's just that the talent is spread around the 5 teams instead of the Yankees and Red Sox being loaded.

Here's one guy's take on it:

i'd take my chances with no one

I wouldn't have run on Perez. Pillar or maybe Reyes, but no one else.

But will be good enough to participate in HR Derby a day later and in the ASG 2 days later?

At this point, I'm expecting him to pull out any minute now.

have to wait and see. If he doesn't have a fever or feel dehydrated today he will probably be ok. playing sick in the heat yesterday probably didn't help. I'm sure he'd have played today if the medical staff let him. JD really doesn't seem like the kind of guy who is ok with missing games.

After their poor performance vs. the Yankees and Buchholz's injury, it's uncertain they will contend. (BTW, they're 7 in the loss column). They have a tough Angels series coming up after the break, then Houston (which should be winnable for Boston.. Springer's absence is really hurting). They then get Detroit, Chicago and Tampa.. they're going to be in tough after the break.

it was a terrible call. it couldve changed the approach to the AB entirely. maybe martin doesn't swing at ball 4

edit: put goins instead of martin smh

I'm not saying he's ok with missing games, I just wonder if he'll have enough time to recover by Friday if he participates in HR Derby and ASG.

martin, but ok... lol

I love Bautista but his bitching about the strike zone is so irritating, its fine to get in an umpire's face every now and then but to throw a hissy fit everytime you think they wrong you is just annoying.

JD being ready for Friday should be WAY down on your list of things to worry about mate. Hitting some HRs and playing two innings of baseball over 4 days should be fine. it's the flu not an amputation. Bautista on the other hand...
