IronLadle Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Nobody said anything about how consistent he's been. We know that he has been inconsistent. The home/road splits are all you need to look at for that. The whole argument was whether or not Hutchison deserves to be sent down, and whether or not he's been anywhere nearly as terrible as his ERA dictates, and the answer to both is a resounding "NO". We also don't have anyone better
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 so you would argue command isnt his issue, it seems like you didnt directly answer my question I think his command is slightly worse and random variance has done most of the damage aside from that.

And it looks like hes been getting hit harder, LD% backed that up from last year. even though the question was for GD, you didnt answer what i was asking with regards to his command. If you look back my first post was with regards to his fastball not whether or not he should be sent down, which was an obvious troll attempt by the OP.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Will AA get multiple starters at the deadline or just 1?
IronLadle Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Will AA get multiple starters at the deadline or just 1? I'm pretty happy with no trades
LTR Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Drew reminds me so much of Morrow. Flashes of brilliance, good peripheral stats, but never could really put it together for a full season.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I'm pretty happy with no trades Isn't that just a waste though. It's the perfect time to sell some if we are not going to get an ace that we need.

Maahfaace Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Not having a fully developed 3rd pitch puts him at a disadvantage his slider looked so good near the end of last year too......
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 his slider looked so good near the end of last year too...... It seems like he is trying to be what he isnt. He came up known as a control pitcher but has tried to become a strikeout pitcher while not regaining his command following TJS
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 ^ Look Boxcar and such have a very good point. Hutch has not been the problem, and has been unlucky as well. He is still a good no.3, but two no.3s and three replacement starters do not make a contender.

He's the opposite of Buehrle - decent peripherals but allows lots of runs and rarely pitches 6 innings. Before tonight he had a higher WAR than Buehrle

SAAviour Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Would help if Fatty could frame a low strike for hutch today.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 It seems like he is trying to be what he isnt. He came up known as a control pitcher but has tried to become a strikeout pitcher while not regaining his command following TJS I assume what you mean by this comment is that he's trying to throw harder at the expense of some command. The evidence doesn't support this idea as his BB/9 is 2.7 which is trending below his first two years in the majors and just a tad higher than his MiLB walk rate that was generally in the low to mid 2's. In 2011 his last full season in the minors he struck out more than a batter an inning.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 It time AA and useless Gibbons got of their asses and sent Hutch down to learn how to pitch. He is no different than Norris. *sighs*
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 You guys are smarter than me. You're saying a pitcher has no control over what LD% he allows? It certainly appears some pitchers have control over their GB% and FB% (ie, groundball and fly ball pitcher) - why is it they can control that, but not LD%? Learn me wise ones.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 @FAN590: Should the #BlueJays send Drew Hutchison to Buffalo and bring up Daniel Norris? Let @BennisSNet know at 1-888-666-0590, 416-870-0590, *590 Woops, they made a mistake and accidentally said Drew Hutchison when they meant RA Dickey.
sachmo55 Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 There might be some evidence to say Hutichison pitchs worse with Runners on and that causes him to underperform his peripherals, but the extremeness that has been going on this year is just straight up ridiculous, he's much better than this.
SultanofPoon Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 It'll be none. This is my feeling as well.
LTR Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Dickey, by the numbers (qualified starters): - 10th worst ERA - 2nd worst FIP (only guy worse is Kyle Kendrick and he pitches for the Rockies!) - 4th worst xFIP - 8th lowest K/9 - 5th highest BB/9 ---------------------- Absolutely unequivocally brutal.

Can he even do good against the Whitesox...
LTR Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Can he even do good against the Whitesox... Doubtful.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Doubtful. Then there is no reason for him to start....long relief when we are getting blown out is the only value he has now
LTR Verified Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Then there is no reason for him to start....long relief when we are getting blown out is the only value he has now Don't want him as long relief either; he sucks man. Don't want Martin worrying about catching him anymore. Also our offense can come back in blowouts, we've proven that.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 The point is that LD% isn't talent-based because it doesn't correlate year-to-year and is subjective. Hutch cannot be expected to maintain this high BABIP because his LD% is artificially inflated by factors outside of his control. I can't thank this enough (I haven't actually thanked it once but that is out of principle it being North). I was a stupid guy when I started on the boards... nothing has changed but because of some really smart people and a natural love of curiosity I reaearched on my own to get a basic understanding of the numbers and what they mean. Taking the time and just giving the basic understanding of where you are coming from will help get a point across more than saying something like "Hutch has been our best starter" or posting fangraph links and making absolute statements. Just my little preach to the really smart on the board...someday I'll even teach you to talk to humans face to face as a thank you
