Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 It's astounding how many people actually seem to believe that you can just put aside a bunch of runs for another day. Its like they didn't notice clay buchholtz pitched really well yesterday

Not to mention how many people bitch about "1-run games". You know what a 1-run game is? It's that time your stomach is in a knot because a bloop double or seeing-eye single changes the course of the game. Yeah, I'll take a six-run blowout win please. I don't want every game to feel like it's vs. the effing Rays.

baloojayz Verified Member Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 (edited) So can someone tell me a correct distribution of runs? If you have a three-run lead, should a team stop piling on and save those runs for a one-run lead or a small deficit? Also, how many realize that there are 29 other teams employing world class baseball talent who are doing their best to prevent runs, and that the Blue Jays play these teams 162 times a year? It's astounding how many people actually seem to believe that you can just put aside a bunch of runs for another day. It's not so much putting aside runs for another day, you look at stats to try and find the strengths and weaknesses in your game. The stats suggest that when the Bluejays score runs they score a ton and when they don't they get shutdown. Trying to add more runscoring tools to even out the highs and lows such as having speed at the bottom of the lineup, saving guys for the bench/pinch hitting etc makes sense. The byproduct of this new approach is you wont score 7+ runs as much because some of the time you will be relinquishing your potential for a big inning to score a few high prob. runs. So its not like you score 5 runs and then stop to save your run scoring power for another day. Edited June 30, 2015 by baloojayz

That game they lost vs the Mets in extras after Bautista tied it up in the 9th was still very much enjoyable. Having every pitch matter adds to the experience
