BTS Community Moderator Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I know that you know that I can't possibly know for sure, but I know that we know that, chances are, West or Guilmet are better. Accurate declaration is accurate.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 You could post this in response to anything posted on this forum. Thanks for not doing that though. You don't know that

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Gheez I they want Castro's fastball in the bullpen that badly, why not Infante?

BTS Community Moderator Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I really don't understand where the idea comes from that a 20-year old with 9 innings in A+ ball is going to be an asset to a major league bullpen. If this works out you're probably looking at a 1-2 runs better than replacement. If it doesn't work out, he gets shelled, costs you a win or so, burns an option year, and the team loses an out-of options guy that could have had his job from the outset. I don't understand why this is even being discussed.

Why does everything have to be negative , if the coaches and management think the kid can succeed in the ,majors there must be a reason ..

Why does everything have to be negative , if the coaches and management think the kid can succeed in the ,majors there must be a reason .. The management group has a long history of rounding out the roster with terrible options, and 20-year olds with effectively no A+ experience have a long history of not succeeding in the majors (actually, do they? this doesn't even really happen). There is very little chance this works well.

BTS Community Moderator Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Jose Fernandez and Jorge Polanco are the only ones I can remember Fernandez was the only one I could think of, and he at least dominated A+ for 55 innings before the jump.

There is very little chance this works well. Arodys Vizcaino in 2011...but even he made quick stops at AA and AAA along the way (then he wasn't good when he got to the majors)
Hipfan Verified Member Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Fernandez was the only one I could think of, and he at least dominated A+ for 55 innings before the jump. If I had to pick, I'd rather them go with high end talent that hasn't had much experience in the minors (Castro), than out of option players that have shown they can't get it done in the majors (Drabek). At least with the former, there is a chance that they could be effective. I'm so tired of the Jays wasting roster spots on fringe out of option players (Esmil Rogers, Jo Jo Reyes, Aaron Laffey, etc.).
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I agree, this move would be terrible. The Jays have more than enough bullpen options. There is no reason to rush Castro or Osuna. I think the worst thing to happen to this team was the bullpen implosion last season. AA has lost his marbles because of it (Sanchez in the pen, possibly Castro in the pen, and who knows what else).

Lower risk option would be to trade Castro for the righthanded equivalent of Cecil

Drabek probably sucks, but Hendriks and even Barnes might not, and all three are out of options. Then you have guys like Guilmet, Infante, Lopez, West etc... that also might not suck. You give Castro a shot instead of one of them, you're probably costing yourself a few runs. And wasting an option year. Little things, but they add up.

There is very little chance this works well. I think AA believes using high end pitching prospects is a cheap way to have a good bullpen and he may be right. I wouldn't be surprised to see Osuna in pen by the all star break, It will depend on the bullpens performance.
Gorlak Verified Member Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Are you sure they have more than enough bullpen options? I keep reading all off season how there's not enough depth and we need more bullpen arms. I'd say they don't need depth so much as good players.
