gbill2004 Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 (edited) @JonHeymanCBS: Johan santana has agreed to sign with blue jays. Santana is still only 34. Wouldn't bet against him. @ShiDavidi: #BlueJays sign LHP Johan Santana to minor league deal with spring invite. @ShiDavidi: #BlueJays plan to look at Johan Santana as a starter. Unclear if he's ready for opening day but may be ready soon after. Edited February 26, 2015 by gbill2004

GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Steamer glitch 2k14!!! No but seriously this is fantastic, great job AA.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 The pitching duels between him and Doc were pretty sick back in the day.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 The pitching duels between him and Doc were pretty sick back in the day. Jays always had Santana's number though. I will admit, Opening Day 2006 was sweet though. Doc vs. Santana and BJ Ryan coming in the ninth to heavy metal blasting all over the RC and nailing the save!
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 I wonder if he's being brought in to be a starter or reliever?
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 This is so awesome, I started jumping like a kid when I found out about this lol
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Does Johan start or come out of the pen? No risk signing. Can't hurt to see if he has anything left.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 This will probably not work out, but everyone said the same thing about Colon and Kazmir's comebacks. Also, Heyman is awful. Santana is 36 in 2 weeks, not 34.

Shaker Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Low risk, potential reward. I like this kind of signing.
closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Dont mind this at all. Looks like this might solidify the starting 5 and take pressure off of Sanchez, Norris and Estrada. Also gives a better picture of what the bullpen might look like. If he doesnt work out as a starter by Juneish, then at least 1 of those 3 should be stretched out and a more obvious choice. And god forbid one of our starters should happen to step on a sprinkler head, well now we have more depth.

Doc vs. Santana and BJ Ryan coming in the ninth to heavy metal blasting all over the RC and nailing the save! I actually remember this game pretty well. Twins went up early. Bengie Molina hit a monster 3-run home (like, seriously, a real monster). Rios had a good night. 6-3 final. Good game!

Didn't Molina pull a monster shot into the upper deck about 15 feet off the left field foul pole? That was a fun opening day.

Good game! hit the facing of the 5th deck by the foul pole....if i remember right, all the big signings (minus AJ) played a part in this game.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Wait, you think he isn't? Even if things go well he probably starts in AAA.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Yeah. Didn't Molina pull a monster shot into the upper deck about 15 feet off the left field foul pole? That was a fun opening day. Yup. It was massive. I don't think there's another home opener that I remember this well. Even 2007 or 8's opener vs. KC, which I went to. Just something about that 06 opener. I think it was the fact that it was a big hype season and the fact that they won.

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Stop looking up 9 year old box scores broheim. I'm not, broheim. Look at how many other guys remember the details too. It was a special game that we all remember fondly.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Risk free signing, I like this.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Yup. It was massive. I don't think there's another home opener that I remember this well. They had just made the big payroll bump to $210 million over three years, and had just signed Ryan, Burnett and Molina and traded for Glaus. It felt like a new era in Toronto, and seeing Doc beat Santana on opening day with the new guys (Molina in particular) playing a big role was special.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Even if things go well he probably starts in AAA. would they possibly be looking at him as a pen option? there are more than 5 guys who are more than likely ahead of him as a starter
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 would they possibly be looking at him as a pen option? there are more than 5 guys who are more than likely ahead of him as a starter I'd probably throw him into AAA regardless.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 This is a popular move just because of the name. Get over the excitement guys and put your expectations down to 0. It's like trading/signing a Vernon Wells or a Ryan Howard. The performance no longer equals the name.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I'd probably throw him into AAA regardless. I just dont see him as a starting option unless there is some terrible bus crash killing half our starters...
