metsguy Verified Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 How do you Jays fans feel about the RA Dickey deal? Syndergaard should be emerging this year and dArnaud may be a top ten catcher. Glad to see Dickey doing well for you

He's going to be untouchable in yr 3 for us as he sprays his balls all over the plate.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 At this point in time we have annihilated the Mets in this trade. dArnaud is putting up jpa #s on offense and syndergaard would have been our 5th best pitcher in AAA last year. Both of these players lightyears are away from reaching their potential.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Dickey has been a solid mid-rotation workhorse starter, but obviously that's not something you give up Syndergaard and d'Arnaud for.

I like the deal from our end NOW, though at the time I would have preferred it if RA took the offer we gave him. I was SHOCKED you dealt dArnaud. From your perspective, you have gotten effective innings, but not of the Cy variety. If you fall from the race, maybe dealing him in July might be the right call.
metsguy Verified Member Posted January 31, 2015 Author Posted January 31, 2015 d'Arnaud is currently a good major league catcher. On the offensive side he will be just fine, maybe elite for the position. Keeping an eye on the receiving and throwing skill set.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 On the offensive side he will be just fine, maybe elite for the position. Keeping an eye on the receiving and throwing skill set. He's probably a +10 framer. Add that to the bat that's at least league-average and you have the potential for 4+ win seasons if he can stay on the field. I don't hold the Mets org in the highest regard, but I really hope they don't let the passed balls hurt their perception of how good he is.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Depressing subject this
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 It was a bad trade since the beginning. Most here wish they would've gotten a younger pitcher, or position player, in return. I do think there's some hidden value in the stability Dickey, as well as Buehrle, have brought to the Blue Jays' starting rotation. I also think the Blue Jays value the interest and hype the Dickey and Marlins trades brought them. Absent those moves, they risked striking out in FA and going into 2013 expecting to lose between 90-100 games. Not saying this is a good reason to overpay, but this franchise just doesn't dig being in such a position. Very few of the players traded would've helped the team either lose 90-100 games the last 2 seasons, or avoid losing that many games, so they figured they'd spend some of their assets on improving the team ASAP rather than take a step or 2 back and wait for the farm to bear fruits. I certainly hope Syndergaard and D'Arnaud continue to do well for the Mets.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 d'Arnaud is currently a good major league catcher. Navarro had a higher WAR last year but he is garbage right. Lol hypocrisy overload
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Navarro had a higher WAR last year but he is garbage right. Lol hypocrisy overload It's frustrating because I typed out a really long post the last time you brought this up, which you ignored, and now you're back on the same subject in another thread. If Navarro was a +10 framer and d'Arnaud -10 my opinion on their value would be reversed.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Navarro had a higher WAR last year but he is garbage right. Lol hypocrisy overload throwback to that time BTS specifically addressed how fWAR for catchers doesn't give you the full picture without framing

Many of my fellow fans are a different story
metsguy Verified Member Posted January 31, 2015 Author Posted January 31, 2015 19 year old Wuilmer Becerra was also part of that deal. 6-4 195 lb OF just needs to solve the contact problem a bit as he moves along to upper levels of A ball this year
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Aren't the Mets considering moving D'Arnaud to the outfield? It just seems like an organization that's determined to shoot themselves in the foot
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 throwback to that time BTS specifically addressed how fWAR for catchers doesn't give you the full picture without framing well if BTS said it must be true, after he is one of the leading MLB analyst

Both of these players lightyears are away from reaching their potential. There was never a point where we annihilated the Mets, D'Arnaud put up better numbers than JPA ever did with plus framing and syndergaard is a better prospect than Daniel Norris. Everything about this post is ridiculous.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 well if BTS said it must be true, after he is one of the leading MLB analyst not subtle enough

It is very likely this will be the worst Blue Jays trade ever.

Is that what you wanted, well you already got it. You guys won big time,

metsguy Verified Member Posted January 31, 2015 Author Posted January 31, 2015 Aren't the Mets considering moving D'Arnaud to the outfield? It just seems like an organization that's determined to shoot themselves in the foot Mets are about BUILT Have been through a tough rebuild - and now ready to compete No sign dArnaud will change positions. You dont do that just because he had some hiccups with the glove in one season and you have another catcher coming up behind him. Catchers that hit like he projects are GOLD. But we still need to see if there is any CARTER (read: leader) in him.
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 tbh I think trading Gomes for Esmil Rogers is a way worse trade. that one still bums me out.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Worse then Micheal Young for Esteban Loiza or Werth for Frasor Yes. BOTH d'Arnaud and Syndergaard project to be elite at their positions. Bucerra, who knows. Let's see how this plays out.

BTS Community Moderator Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Mets could actually be sneaky good this year: C - d'Arnaud 1B - Duda/Mayberry 2B - Murphy 3B - Wright SS - Flores CF - Lagares LF - Granderson RF - Cuddyer Harvey deGrom Colon Wheeler Niese Montero/Gee/Syndergaard That's the best they've looked in awhile.
Johnny King Vancouver Canadians - A+ LHP The 19-year-old top prospect has made 16 High-A starts. He is 3-2 with a 2.92 ERA. In 61 2/3 innings, he's walked 35, but he's struck out 83 batters. Explore Johnny King News >
