Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 The Red Sox have agreed to a deal with free agent third baseman Pablo Sandoval, CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman reports (Twitter link). It’s a five-year contract worth in the range of $100MM. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/11/red-sox-to-sign-pablo-sandoval.html
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Most people didn't seriously think they were looking to acquire both. Now it seems they have quite a logjam.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 ahahahahaha nice So wtf is happening to Bogaerts? Their infield is, like, totally full everywhere. And their outfield, lol. Maybe they'll move a s*** ton of their outfielders and put Boogers in left? Jeez.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Hanley will be playing LF.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Does this mean no Lester to Boston now?
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Thank God. Yeah thank God Redsox are getting even better They will win the AL east quite easily now
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Does this mean no Lester to Boston now? I wouldn't say that just yet
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Yeah thank God Redsox are getting even better They will win the AL east quite easily now Lol.. With who pitching? Sandoval is going to fall off a cliff inside two years.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Author Posted November 24, 2014 Red Sox OF Depth: Hanley, Craig (healthy hit like a motherucker), Cespedes, Betts, Rusney, Victorino, Nava Betts+ for Hamels in 3...2...1
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Lol.. With who pitching? Sandoval is going to fall off a cliff inside two years. Maybe he will thrive offensively in fenway park
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Lol.. With who pitching? Sandoval is going to fall off a cliff inside two years. By outhitting them and late game relievers
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Ya I just looked at Boston's pitching staff, and even if they get Lester, its ugly. Without Lester, they're in big trouble, even with Pablo and Hanley signing.

gbill2004 Verified Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Lester, Zimm (Bogaerts), Hamels (Betts+) That would be sick if they could pull that off.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 By outhitting them and late game relievers That's normally not a recipe for success. Too many things have to go right to have success with that approach. It's not like the two signings made them better athletically either.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 That would be sick if they could pull that off. but they won't....but they will be looking for starting pitching. They have enough outfielders for 2 teams so they will definitely be moving a couple. I could see them getting Zimmerman.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Feels like Jays are back in 3rd now
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Feels like Jays are back in 3rd now AA needs to go hard after Lester.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Yeah thank God Redsox are getting even better They will win the AL east quite easily now I thought the Ramirez signing was a good one....I think Sandoval got too much money, but he's still a good player making them a better team next year. It never gets easier. The Jays need to go get lester or at least sign an outfielder...
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Sign Lester and Melky. Trade away Happ, Dickey, Navarro, and Thole. That's about 25 mill out and about 35 mill in.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Feels like Jays are back in 3rd now The Yanks have been silent, never discount them on any free agents or international players. Jays can go from 3rd to 4th quite easily. Especially if JB/EE miss any significant time.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Sign Lester and Melky. Trade away Happ, Dickey, Navarro, and Thole. That's about 25 mill out and about 35 mill in. That's a good plan, but I like Tomas more than Melky. He's got some solid skills and is 24 without a PED history. He will take more but the AAV might be around the same for a guy with a ton of upside. Also trading away Happ/Dickey/Navarro/Thole will require getting players with salary back, hopefully younger guys but still, it might be 5-10m back in salary also, so it would be more like 25m out 45m back. But it would be necessary in order for this club to compete next year and the following.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Feels like Jays are back in 3rd now I remember how the world came to an end when the Yankees signed beltran, mccaan, tanaka and ellsbury...but then the Yankees were crap last year. Boston's rotation is hot garbage. They do have pieces that can be traded to upgrade their though. I agree the Jays need take note of two big players signing for Boston that will make them better. We should go out and add, but I don't think Boston vaulted way ahead of the Jays with these 2 signings.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Any pitchers on the trade market? You have to figure an assset like Boogers could land you pretty much any pitcher from a team looking to rebuild.

Hamels, although based on what we hear they're gonna want at least 2 more premium players. They'll probably demand Boogers + Betts + whatever

He's going to ask for the moon for Hamels.

Think Phillies.
