You could probably eat 1/3 of Reyes' contract and move him. People would want at 15M.

 

Don't trade Dickey. He's worth his contract. 12.5M pretty reasonable given how good he's been.

At one time I would have considered this to be a pitchers duel but after watching the Orioles series I know that it is just two equally inept teams that can't score.

 

PS: I just tuned in for a couple of innings, did Pillar do something worthwhile?

I seriously think Reyes could play a sold second base. Atleast average. It doesn't make sense to continue to play a below average defensive player at position when the 2 guys next to him could probably play it better. And I refer to Lawrie at 3B and Goins at 2B. Goins should be playing SS if they insist on keeping him in the lineup.

 

It would probably make more sense to move Reyes to third and Lawrie to second. Lawrie has better range, and Reyes has tons of arm.

 

Hell, we could probably even swap Lawrie and Reyes. He seems to have the range to handle short no problem (at least for the next few years).

Lawrie has no where near the glove to play SS. Im not sure he has the arm accuracy either. Plus his risk for injury increases at SS. Just let him play at 3rd.

I think Reyes makes too many throwing errors. Even with a good throwing arm Reyes could put a lot of throws in the stands from 3rd.

that might work. I hate having 22M a year to Reyes. he's just not very good at baseball and will probably decline quickly, if he doesn't get injured and just disappear.

Dickey isn't a bad starter by any means. I'd say he is a decent no. 3 everything considered. The two biggest issues are,

 

a. what we gave up for him, which I do not blame Dickey for.

b. his personal catcher Thole which also weakens our lineup when he plays and takes a spot on the bench. I do blame Dickey for this somewhat.

 

Ok Steve Pearce doesn't hate us. He would have came to Toronto if Davis doesn't get hurt. Really just terrible timing for us.

If the jays can finish second this year I think that would be a huge boost to team morale and the momentum from that could carry over to next year.
