Pretty obvious that this again has been a huge disappointment this year and really affects the pitching staff. Stroman lately has been the victim but really all starters have been victims. Happ today.

This off season is really the time to move Reyes to 2nd. Francisco has to go, as Valencia, Macier, and Muni off better options. CF should be better with Gose/ Pillar and Pompey . That leaves catcher and SS. Old school baseball was always defense /speed up the middle, power at the corners but in today,s game you can't think that way.

The Jays offense if healthy and clicking can afford an all defense no bat player in one position IF it is only one and the bench is solid. This team drastically needs a catcher that can handle the Knuckle ball and be a front line catcher. Navarro has to be an expensive back up . No way around it we have to improve the defense behind the plate.

Pick your poison all defense behind the plate or at short. Thoughts?

Goins at 2b picks up many gb

He also catches that elsbury popup

Reyes needs to move to 2nd. If Goins is starting his all defense and absolutely NO bat body needs to be at short

moves reyes, pay what you have to and pick up JJ Hardy or a similar player for cheap. Trade A young pitcher (Sanchez or Hutchison) for one of their young middle infielders plus a relief pitching prospect.

i'd rather deal with reyes at short if it means getting a catching upgrade

you can do both, trade Reyes and release Navarro. Bring back kratz or get Russell Martin. We still have to deal with Thole as the back up smh

Think about that , eat 5 mil on Navarro,s contract , Pay about 6 to 8 mil a year to trade Reyes ( If you can ) and then trade for Kratz or pay Martin 4/15 or so ?????????????.

I would much rather get rid of Dickey and Thole.

Yes use some of that payroll flexibility to get rid of Reyes and Navarro to set the team for 2016 and beyond. If you can trade either Buehrle or Dickey, whichever needs the least amount of money included in the trade

If reyes, dickey, thole, buehrle and navarro are on this team next year I don't see how they will compete. Buehrle only has a year left on the contract so you bite the bullet so his 200 innings prove useful while the younger guys build their arms up

The problem is that Hardy isn't going to come cheap. Jhonny Peralta got 4/$52M from the Cards last offseason and while he's the better hitting SS I don't think Hardy will command a whole lot less. Factor in the cash the Jays will need to send along with Reyes and his $70M owed and it might just be worth it to hang onto him. Moving Reyes also creates a hole at the top of the lineup.

I think he can be had for a reasonable 3 year deal. He's 32 making 7 million this year. Gladly give him 8,9,10 million a year to provide 2-3 war a year for the life of that contract

Agreed. 3/30 may do the trick and it would be worth it. If Reyes is approached by management regarding a move to 2B,he'd better be open to the idea. If not, i'm sure AA can trade him, while eating 6-8mil a year though. The 15mil saved per could be used in signing Hardy and still have 3-5mil to spare. The Reyes trade could also land us a decent starting second or third baseman in the process and the 3-5mil can go towards whatever type of contract that player brings, maybe an infielder who's still has a few years to go to FA.

If they want the jays to eat a significant chunk then they have to give up a top prospect cause dude is still an above average hitting shortstop provided he can stay healthy for a good chuck of the season like this one

Are we anticipating keeping Dickey around for awhile?

Navarro isn't that expensive and could be moved for something of need that would free up bad money from another team. And I'd rather be paying Jimenez LG MIN to do what Navarro does.

Jimenez will provide better defense but will hit nowhere close to Navarro.

True but if Jimenez is good defensively and is a decent framer then he'll provided the same value for way cheaper

Agreed, swallow a bit of salary and get a controllable player(middle infielder) who is basically MLB ready in return.

Jimenez will probably put up a .220 / .280 type line in the bigs with little power. His defense as a whole better be Pudge like to get close to Navarro's value.

Don't expect Pudge defense lol, I expect something like Martin Maldonado from the brewers

edit: not the offense but similar impact on defense
