Do you think Buehrle declines a fair amount next year? His performance is going to take a pretty big hit one of these years.

Players decline when they lose natural abilities

He doesn't have any. He is not even an athlete.

He can literally pitch like this for another 10 years like Moyer

Don't know if this was meant to be funny or not but I laughed. And you're maybe kind of slighty partly right in an exxagerated way.

There comes a point when his velocity is going to drop to a point where the results are going to regress. He also isn't the workhouse he once was. I think he's still a good pitcher but he won't be pitching like this forever...

And who said he'd pitch "like this" forever? He's signed for 1 more year. I'm not against moving him, or any other player for that matter, however, I think some posters are getting a bit too giddy over guys like Norris and Sanchez. I can understand being comfortable with Stroman and Hutchison, but beyond them, there are big question marks if you're trying to contend. Also, given this FO's history, it's far from a given that they'd go after and actually sign one of the top FA SP and with good reason since they've never done much in free agency.

Let Norris and Sanchez start in AAA for half the year and reevaluate then, unless you have several injuries.

Also there may come a time where he just doesn't feel like doing it any more, even if he still can. These guys with long careers often seem to just tire of it after a while. There's nothing he hasn't accomplished. WS title, perfect game, no hitter. He's made a boatload of money. One off season he may just say "that's enough" and retire and focus on volunteer work and stuff. He seems like that kind of guy.

Lol I am one of the guys who would rather keep Buehrle all things being equal. I don't want to see JA Happ back with the team though as it is a waste of money for what he could do for the team.

I agree. He has kids too so he may want to spend time with them. My guess if his performance contines that he pitches 3 more years.

Is there any chance in hell of signing both Hardy and Lowrie to play short and 2B respectively while dumping Reyes' contract on the Yankees?

Dickey+Thole, Reyes and izturis for Blackburn or Crick and Scutaro if no money goes the other way if we pay half the difference at what 16.5 mill we save 16.5 mill too, but get all three players named win win!

Then f***ing just resign Mellky let Lind go!

Sign the best pitcher availible money be damned!

And we are golden, golden I tell you!

Dammit I'd love to trade Reyes to the Yankees

They have a gaping iconic hole at short stop next year, they dont seem to care that much about infield defense, and they have essentially limitless money.

But then we need even more infielders and we seem have trouble finding even one.

Dickey/Delabar to LAD for Lee, Guerrero, League

Reyes to Yankees in pure salary dump

Sign Hardy and Lowrie, put Guerrero in LF

Trade for Rene Rivera (dat defense/pitch framing)

Agreed. They are replacing an icon and Reyes is still productive and popular in NYC. The Yankees are probably the Jays only hope for a pure Reyes salary dump. Otherwise, it will have to be contract for contract (something like Reyes for Ethier+).

Backload an offer to Lester.... keep him from the Sox, money will be freed up with MB, RR off the books end of 2015. MB is the bridge to one of Sanchez or Norris (Osuna?) in 2016.

For da money! For the pitching depth! For the team! Why wouldn't we ?

I can live with a Goins/Scutaro combo at short for less then half of what Reyes will make!

Then resign Melky with the Savings and we have a switch hitting DH machine!

Bye bye Lindy! Bye bye Platoon and needed platoon partner for Lind!

Saving even Mo' money!

AA and Rogers luv's em cheap!

Other than Melky who was tainted by the PED scandal, when was the last time the Jays signed a top free agent. It is so frigging long ago that some of you posters were in diapers. Ryan and Burnett 8 frigging years ago and JPR had to hugely overpay to get them .

The team still plays on turf in a small park in the AL east in another country. Free agents thru rumors have supposedly spurned this team for years. Add to that Rogers by all press accounts would not add money this year so it is very likely the budget stays or goes down.

Vik is right. The odds of us signing Martin is nil and that goes for the top free agents pitchers too for all the above reasons and more. I know most will be pissed off at this post because the want to spend the off season dreaming of building a better team but reality is AA won't overpay and they don't want to come ere anyway.

Even Melky is going to be a tough sign and I think he likes it here. Get over it, top free agents are NOT coming here.

Couldnt have said it better myself, especially noting beestons retarted five year max rule does not help in attracting top free agent's. It's the cold hard truth. It doesn't mean we can't be successful, we just need to be able to develop our player's better....

This thread was fun last year, so let’s do it again. I tried to keep the projected roster at guys who earned a place this year and are likely to make next year’s team. IMO the only virtual locks to not be non-tendered are Lawrie, Francisco, and Hutchison.

C – Navarro (5)

1B – Encarnacion (10)

2B –

3B – Lawrie (arb1)

SS – Reyes (22)

RF – Bautista (14)

CF – Gose (nm)

LF –

DH –

1B/3B – Juan Francisco (arb2)

2B/3B – Maicer Izturis (3)

OF - John Mayberry Jr. (arb2)

SP – Dickey (12)

SP – Buehrle (19)

SP –Romero (7.5)

SP – Hutchison (arb1)

SP – Stroman (nm)

RP – Brett Cecil (arb2)

RP – Aaron Loup (nm)

RP – Todd Redmond (nm)

Total = $89.5 million + nm(5) + arb (Lawrie, Francisco, Hutchison)

= approx. $92 million + arb (Lawrie, Francisco, Hutchison, Mayberry Jr.)

Free Agents

Melky Cabrera

Colby Rasmus

Casey Janssen

Team Options

Brandon Morrow (10 + 1 buyout)

Adam Lind (7.5 + 1 buyout)

J.A. Happ (6.7 + 0.2 buyout)

Sergio Santos (6 + 0.75 buyout)

Dustin McGowan (4 + 0.5 buyout)

Josh Thole (1.75)

Other Arb-Eligible

Dan Johnson (arb3)

Danny Valencia (arb1)

Munenori Kawasaki (arb1)

Interesting information. I hope that they will re-sign Valencia, Cabrera, trade Reyes, keep Goins on the major league team, and just get rid of Francisco (he killed the team with his defence - watching him live at a game is a head-shaking experience, I just kept wondering how he became a major-leaguer)

I was under the false impression that Jeter was still making 20M a season but he's not. His last contract was front loaded and they "only" paid him 12M this year. Even for the Yankees, tossing in an extra 10M for Reyes is likely not appealing, especially since they have to start paying ARod again next year.

Hitting 500 foot home runs is how he became a major leaguer. It's his only skill.

Trading Buehrle for salary relief is a terrible idea unless someone takes the entire contract. AA would have to eat salary, and even if he takes on $5M of his contract, are we really going to replace Buehrle for $14M and if we do then was it even worth it? I'd rather let Buehrle pitch out the final year and if we are in it, then keep him and let the contract run out, if we are out of it then flip him at the deadline. 1/19 looks a lot better than signing someone for 4/60+.

Buehrle,s salary along with Reyes is ugly but if moved Rogers would just suck up that money into their hockey deal and the team would be way worse off.

500 ft home runs , legendary strikeouts and defense that makes Lind look like a solid gold glover.

That's why I nicknamed him the legend, for his legendary strikeouts

Edwin calling AA is how Francisco became a Blue Jay

Blame Edwin ;)

Edwin thought he would continue to hit the home runs and pitchers wouldn't find out he had trouble with the curve

Yep , has more than a few that will stick in my mind for awhile

To be honest the jays could have done a lot worse then a 109 wRC+.

He killed that 9% above average bat with his defense. And he's a platoon bat only.

For the money he wasn't terrible but we're better off keeping Lind who is a better all around hitter even with less power.
