Tells you how incredibly well the Jays drafted this year, where they let guys like Houck, Pop, Weisenberg, Latz and Papierski go and still managed to pull off the top ranked draft of the year.

Of course we won't really know who had the best draft probably until a decade from now, but we can enjoy what we can enjoy for now.

I remember how everybody said we had an amazing draft in 07. It's really paying dividends now, eh?

MLB draft is too unpredictable.

After that, Boston signed four high schoolers above their assigned values: first baseman Josh Ockimey from Pennsylvania ($450,000, fifth round), righty Kevin Steen from Tennessee ($255,000, ninth), outfielder Trenton Kemp from California ($255,000, 15th) and catcher Devon Fisher from Virginia ($300,000, 20th).

Wow, I'm surprised they got Kemp for so little. I really liked his potential.

How could I not "thank" Captain Hindsight?

He's got a point though.

That the draft is a crapshoot? Sure. So you do the best you can and analyze it at the time rather than looking back 7 years later.

Uh, yeah. That's exactly what you don't do.

Why would you grade on hindsight rather than at the time? I mean, if you're going back and identifying your mistakes that's cool, but I would think that evaluating specifically prospects in hindsight invites a lot of bias in.

Ewwwww

Why?

Just looked up his numbers and Turner happens to be in A ball already and is raking with a bunch of steals...

Because you dont let a month of A ball determine bias when evaluating a player. Its not like Pentecost has been playing badly either..

Turners been my guy since well before the draft.

I think hes going to be a sack of s***. His "tools" won't play much in the future. Perhaps his speed well. But hes never going to hit.

How could you say that? Way too early for serious prognostication. He needs a full season. He wasn't a first round talent for naught. He has major league tools.

Fair enough. Do you have any concern with the swing?

He has made an adjustment to his swing:

"I felt like I was having good at-bats, but I made little adjustments on my swing with my approach. It kind of slowed the game down, made 95 seem a little slower," the right-handed hitter said. "I did a little different stance, turned my shoulder towards the plate more [and] I focused on going the other way a little bit."

We'll see, but I do think he has the potential to hit for a decent average, as well he does seem to have a good approach and should have a good walk rate and OBP. Combine that with his near 80 speed on the scouting scale and plus glove at a premium position, and I think he has a chance to be an all-star. I'm a fan of the glove/speed/OBP combo. Even if he never hits for average, he'll be a dangerous 9 hole hitter, while if the bat comes around he has definite all-star potential.

Pentecost I like, but his lack of power is concerning, and his D is still very much a work in progress (particularly controlling the running game). He should hit for average though, but overall, I just feel like Turner brings more upside to the table. Pentecost to me is a one tool guy, and that tool is the toughest to project.

I believe it when I see it in majors. Especially at catcher. About 3 years ago I remember Keith Law calling TDA best catching prospect in baseball. I remember him saying he so far ahead there isn't even a distant 2nd best catcher prospect. Arencibia when he first came up hit a homerun first game was going to be good power catcher. Then we had 2 others who were projected future MLBers. One went in Happ trade, the other, Jiminez still toiling in minors. Out of the 4 future projected major leaguers, Arencibia flopped, TDA is scuffling, the other 2 look like fringe players at best. Ironically, the only catching prospect we had at the time to make much of himself, was Gomes. But he wasn't projected to be much of a major leaguer

Can someone tell me what Trea Turner's A- wOBA was? lol MLC has .338, Fangraphs has .302, and I got .260, so there's obviously some contextual adjustment going on somewhere. that's a big difference. Seeing as he got promoted, probably closer to .338.

I was on PSD a few years ago. But haven't been there since 2011 or 2012ish. Wasn't much there. I had another account here but forgot password, the email I had with that account is gone, so did another account.
