Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 "One source believes that Francoeur could leave El Paso veryy soon for a major league opportunity, and mentions the Blue Jays as a potential destination. Toronto, who has been relying on Darin Mastroianni and Brad Glenn for outfield depth behind their starting trio of Jose Bautista, Colby Rasmus and Melky Cabrera, could definitely be in the market for a fourth-outfielder type, and Francoeur seems to fit that mold at this stage in his career."
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2014 Author Posted July 3, 2014 .....and now, Jays FO hates Pillar.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 good splits against LHP in milb http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=425796
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 btw isn't this Cotillo guy who suddenly decided to become an MLB insider at last year's winter meetings, handing out his resume? ;/
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Can't be any worse than the scrubs we've been giving jobs at the MLB level. If it happens, I can dig it. Gose cannot hit.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Ang, this is speculation... "Francoeur seems to fit [the Blue Jays] mold at this stage in his career." The 'source' doesn't say that the Blue Jays have reached out about Francoeur or even that they're internally interested. This isn't a story.

(and I've just deleted my tweet asking for the PM...)" Or is that a different guy?

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Career vs lefties .285/.335/.465 BUT he hasn't hit well at all for at least 2 full seasons Edit: He's only 30? I thought he was much older than that for some reason.
Nox Verified Member Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Whenever you can torch a roster spot on an average AAA bat with no defensive value, you do it.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Whenever you can torch a roster spot on an average AAA bat with no defensive value, you do it. but we already did it with Mastro/Glenn Doesn't hurt that we could get a guy with proven ability to hit LHP (although he hasn't done that in past 2 years in MLB but raking in MILB)

Governator Community Moderator Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Francouer is not raking in AAA. He's batting .348 vs left, albeit small sample size.
Nox Verified Member Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 He's batting .348 vs left, albeit small sample size. Small sample, hitter's league etc. He's the same old bucket of yuck.
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 he hit lefties pretty good in 2011 but since then he's averaged a 61 wRC+

That's the real problem.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I remember when Jeff Franceour was on the cover of SI, being hailed as the next "the natural" for the braves, after 2 seasons he was pretty decent, but it was all downhill from there.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 i think this picture sums up his career trajectory
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 He can help us in a platoon role. Hes a free swinger though people will get frustrated with him at times similar to Francisco. Why not use players with defensive value in platoon roles? Kratz is a right-handed bat who also happens to bethe team's best catcher and he's had to spend time in AAA while the team experiments with the likes of Moises Sierra and Brad Glenn, players who are worthless on either side of the ball. Maybe Francoeur has enough of a platoon split to be an improvement over those worthless players because he could do one thing relatively well but ideally you fill your bench with players who can do more than one thing.
