Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Is Gose good enough with the stick to stick?
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Gose 0,8 fWAR in 22 PA The moral of this story is, Anthony Gose can be projected for 24 fWAR in 2015.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 He's definitely an impact player, starting or bench. He has to stay.
Convo Verified Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 He's definitely an impact player, starting or bench. He has to stay. Problem with a bench role is there's no real chance for development, no player is going to improve playing off the bench. With that said I don't think Gose will ever improve his offensive game so bench seems suitable for now...
Gorlak Verified Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Rasmus is likely trade bait come the deadline, Unless AA feels an extension can be worked out at a decent price or other teams won't give a good return because of his strikeouts. I really doubt AA extends Rasmus.

I really doubt AA extends Rasmus. i really doubt you get s*** all for him at the deadline. which ever team trades for him will not be able to qualify him. Seeing what AA dis in the past he'll prob stick it out with Rasmus all year then offer him a 5 mil per year deal with a bunch of options.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 He's definitely an impact player, starting or bench. He has to stay. It's this year or next anyway. He can't be sent down next season. I still think the same thing about Gose that I always have...he has to BABIP his way to any hitting success (flat batting it would help but doubtful with Gibby managing and Gose's ego). He has great CF range...but he's still going to have mental errors and when he does that will slow the crazy defensive metrics.
Gorlak Verified Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Who did AA do that to and how would that be a problem? If they don't offer him a qualifying offer it's on Rasmus for not performing well enough to warrant one, AA tried to move him in the offseason, but nobody would buy into him sustaining his production with those strikeouts. He may already be tagged as the next B.J. Upton. If they can get him cheap and he will play left, they should keep him, Otherwise they should get what can for him because Gose should be the starting CF next season.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Rasmus gets healthy and puts together another 2013 OPS (seems a long way off now), his payday will be a lot bigger than a lot of Jays fans think imo. Likely not with us.

I get the Upton comparable but CR started last yr with same epic K rate and put together solid numbers before missing last part of 2013. His OPS this year is better than Adam jones and he has 10 more Ks. Who knows what he will do this yr if he gets healthy. He remains an enigma. I have no prob with Gose in CF next year and I guess we will see what we really have. Jays have some big decisions on Melky/Colby.

Gorlak Verified Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I think he will be too much of an enigma for anybody to give him a big deal, His K rate and BABIP from last year will likely scare teams away from long deals. my guess is maybe 4/35. Also accurate comparison or not the B.J. Upton comp will cost him. I don't think the jays will keep either, unless they fall to be a bargain.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 And then there was Nelson Cruz I have no idea what Colby would get anymore I do hope he's good enough for a qualifying offer though. Would like a draft pick if we can't trade him.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Just too hard to tell with CR. 2012 CR was junk-2013 better. Rest of year will tell tale on his payday. Agree BJ deal will hurt him. Also think AJ was overpaid in BAL with stupid term. You would THINK teams will shy away from repeating those.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 God I hope Rasmus puts up good enough numbers to warrant a QO. I doubt the jays are out of it thus move him so the QO gets us something. Gose will have his issues with the bat but defensively he will be good.
Gorlak Verified Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 If the Jays can get pitching in return, they could move him even if they are still in it, If Fransisco keeps, Lind could also go. I think Gose has a floor around 1.5 WAR from defense alone, He takes walks also and gives the team speed.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Fact: When Gose is playing I root for balls to be hit to CF and take great joy from watching him run balls down.
Gorlak Verified Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Subconsciously that is the reason I want Rasmus traded.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I'd extend Rasmus and give Melky the QO instead.... Rasmus LF, Gose CF
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I'd extend Rasmus and give Melky the QO instead.... Rasmus LF, Gose CF Couldbe, but I'd worry that these 2 plus Lind would need a platoon partner. AA can't even get one for Lind, how's he gonna get 3.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Fact: When Gose is playing I root for balls to be hit to CF and take great joy from watching him run balls down. Buehrle went out of his way in an interview the other day to give Gose credit for his CF defense.

Yeah too much lefties with clear platoon needs, I would let Lind go and try to resign Melky to dh a couple times a week when you need to sit either Rasmus or Gose
kgm1 Verified Member Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I'd extend Rasmus and give Melky the QO instead.... Rasmus LF, Gose CF I expect the Jays will have a hell of a lot better chance signing Melky than Rasmus. Moot point if they aren't in it in July cause they should both be traded.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I hope Ryan schimpf is called up at some point
