G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Rogers will spend if the fans come out, right? It's early but I don't like the numbers. The last 4 games have drawn 13,123, 13,569, 15,778 and 14,866 fans. Last year the lowest attendance all season was 15,684 and it was rare to have fewer than 20,000. Maybe we've had more weekday games and uninteresting opponents in the 7 games so far. I'm very curious to see how the crowds are with the Red Sox coming on the weekend.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I just booked a bunch of weekend tickets and the seats I'm getting aren't bad...but it's not like 2010 or 2011, where I could still get 1st row behind the plate in the 500 level a few days before the game. Attendance is down and is likely to be down all year though.
over500 Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 When NBA and NHL playoffs are over. We say that every year, but attendance is still mediocre. It is what it is.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I didn't know that..jeesum..obviously they torched the casual fan base last year I guess I thought fans came out in force last April but idk
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I would say come July but we are never going to be near the top in attendance. We will always be middle to lower part of that list. However Toronto is a fickle baseball town. If we are winning in june and july the fans will come out. If we aren't we will be around the 15,000 mark. The way it always is.

The Leafs have been over for a bit, the Raptors may be replacing them (all in comparison to last year) but last years results combined with a zero off season seems to be having a 20% hit. Last year we kept talking about world series this year the feeling is the basement. Seems Rogers should have tried to ease the claims last year, it takes a while to rebuild trust in Toronto in baseball.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Author Posted April 23, 2014 I didn't know that..jeesum..obviously they torched the casual fan base last year I guess They couldn't have done much LESS to get them excited this off season either
The_DH Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Except all those f'ing bobble heads.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I was looking at total attendance number this year and seattle has about 15,000 less than us. They better start drawing more if they want to make that Cano contract pay off lol.
GoldBull Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 They couldn't have done much LESS to get them excited this off season either This. With a closed dome and nothing exciting happening in a while, the casuals don't have a reason to come out. I think that we'll get a little boost when they start opening the dome, as people can enjoy the weather along with the game. Overall though...they had to have expected that we would be lower this year.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 They couldn't have done much LESS to get them excited this off season either Pretty much sums up the issue . Now to get them back will take a go run of winning and being in first place . If they are then I expect them to draw the casual fan back . If not the marketing group better start some decent mid week promotions . If they are winning I will come from Alberta , If not I'll head back on the trail of my visit to every ball park . 15 down , tons to go to yet .
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 lol @ caring about the Jays when the #NorthernUprising is in full effect.

The_DH Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Not too fair, the Jays pic is at batting practice.
awsomest Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Not too fair, the Jays pic is at batting practice. Right an R.A Dickey start
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Author Posted April 23, 2014 Yeah I agree that if we're in contention in July and August the numbers will go up. But I think we all saw this coming.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Author Posted April 23, 2014 Right an R.A Dickey start It took me a second but I got it.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Attendance certainly hasn't been great, but in fairness we've only played 7 home games so far, and 3 were against the Astros and one on the same night and time as the Raptors playoff game. I would think the next 2 games should be medium attendance, with big crowds this weekend vs the Red Sox.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Here's hoping. I'd love to see 40+ for the weekend games against Boston. It's really amazing that we only play 12 of our first 34 games at home. I mean, it's been a horrible winter and cold spring, so naturally MLB doesn't want to take advantage of one of the cities that actually have a roof lol.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 They'll come on the weekend vs. the Red Sox. Orioles and Astros aren't big sellers.Plus, we've been on the road most of the season so far. Attendance in MLB is down as a whole by 95,000 fans compared to last season. And expect it to fall further once Seattle fans abandon the team as it continues to struggle (up 4,000/game for now, but it won't last.)
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 And their bad start will likely send fans fleeing for the Sounders(MLS), or wait for Seahawks season.

What fans are going to leave seattle they have had 15,000 less fans than Toronto lol I think they were 2nd fewest
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Seattle should petition MLB to move the Jays into the AL West. It would be a win-win. They'd get 150k more fans a year and we'd get an extra 6 home games
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 A lot of teams have mediocre attendance right now, unless you're the Yankees, Dodgers or Cardinals, or the Red Sox. If you think our numbers are bad, don't look at Cleveland's! Indians attendance is near Expos territory.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Rather have them in the AL Central.. we'd get our natural rival Detroit more often.
Governator Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Last year the media created the hype, this year the team has to prove they are worthy to get those fans back.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Total attendance so far.. the growth of that number in Seattle is expected to crater with the team being 7-13(boy, reminds me of what happened to us last year.)
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 36K, 41K and 33K for this weekend is my prediction. Not bad but below the 40K all 6 weekend games in April against the Sox and Yanks got last year.
