closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 1 game bro Believe it or not, Jays are 8th in the Majors in runs scored
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 On another note, attendance seems to be down. Could be 'cause it's only April, but something to watch. Low attendance is what could get the FO fired.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I keep watching the lawrie home run... buck dying makes me laugh every time
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 They also have the best run differential in the AL East at +10. (The Yankees, who lead the AL, are in the negative at -3, mostly because of the struggles outside of Pineda and Tanaka, of which Pineda is due for regression sooner or later.) Tampa Bay is +5, but can they score consistently? Chicago leads with 115 runs, but is offset by garbage pitching giving up 115 runs as well. Oakland leads run differential in the AL with +31, and of course Houston is the worst, followed by Cleveland and Boston.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Uhh.. Raptors game down the street? That's why attendance was down tonight.
Pete_7 Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Didn't it take us 32 games to win 11 games last year?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Bautista has reached base in all 20 games so far this season and I think Cabrera in 19 of 20 or close to it.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Yes. And with Sale going on the DL, that pitching in Chicago is going to regress further. Charlie Leesman was terrible vs. Detroit tonight, and Rienzo will likely get lit up tomorrow.
Cooler Heads Prevail Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 SO , You trust Happless and Rogers in this close game . Take a long look at BP innings pitched FFS I trust Redmond, Rogers, Wagner, and Cecil to pitch multiple innings ( longer for first two ) when they look sharp the first two batters. Gibbons seems to love pulling guys quickly on their good outings but strangely let's struggling guys work through their walks and blow up. BP innings at this point is an overrated stat, we carry 8 guys and have more quality guys then most teams. We have several young guys in the minors that can fill later in the year. This is not a major problem, the problem will be if we squander our current chance to get in a good position in the standings and then a couple of starters get hurt.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 11-9 bro.........check out the other teams differentials and struggling players early, bro. just sayin it wont hold to only score on long balls. they need more from Rasmus and Lawrie. Thole has been way above what he will be long term, but it's really helping when other guys are not. Goins... oh lordy. knew it was gonna be rough, but not like this. A good week here and the jays will look good in the east. Glad that Ed opened his account. now we all expect him to go off. good timing if he does.
Cooler Heads Prevail Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 BB Banter took a look at whether or not the BP has been overused, judge for yourself: http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2014/4/21/5636674/is-the-bullpen-overworked Now, yes, your point stands, in that if the starters continue to not go deep into games, it could become a problem. Gibby could've given Morrow a longer leash on Sunday, for example, but he took him out after a leadoff single in the 6th. He also let Loup throw 29 pitches and ended up using Cecil down by 2. As for Gibby's BP management, we all like the way he handles it, but there have been some iffy decisions for me so far this season. Let's hope it all works out! The team chose to start three guys coming off injuries knowing their bullpen was likely the best in baseball. We have Janssen, Stroman, Sanchez, Nolin? in reserve and Redmond and Rogers have been underutilized if anything. I don't buy into the overworked bullpen at all, I can't think of one guy they are overusing at this point. If starters get hurt and the minor league guys aren't ready well we can trade at the deadline. I could certainly see a guy like Stroman get his feet wet as a long middle reliever in the second half if that's what we need.

They have an 8-man bullpen, they can spread the workload. Both starters and relievers need to lower the walk rate and throw fewer pitches.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 All teams need more from everyone, it's baseball, a world of fail. Hopefully we don't fail as many others. our top 4 are amazing. the bottom half needs to kick it into gear. We had 5 guys if Lind didn't have the back of a 70 year old. he was killing it... Jays are doing well now, but could contend if they get enough out of the bottom half to keep turning the lineup over. Harper has been about as bad as Lawrie this year, but Brett is killer RBI guy even with his abysmal avg
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 How the reliever looks during the first two batters is meaningless unless he walks both. You can't get sucked into managing the pen like that. Rigidly playing the matchups is essential. Gibby knows that, kudos to him.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Already surpassed last April's win total....bar wasn't set that high though.

kgm1 Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I never see Goins numbers stabilizing to be a true ballplayer, he's a 25 man. Lawrie showed tonight why you don't dive on the guy, that was a bomb. Same goes for EE, but anyone questioning EE needs their f***ing head checked. Right now they are pitching around Bautista and they paid for it tonite . Once EE gets hot he can carry a team and they will really pay for walking Bautista . Lawrie shows flashes of coming around but man I hope it is soon . I also have him in two leagues
Cooler Heads Prevail Verified Member Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Thank the good Lord, you aren't in the dugout. Given that pointless jab, I can only conclude thank god you aren't in the dugout. But feel free to be specific about what your problem is letting any of those relievers pitch a 2 inning stretch, and why you think Gibbons refusal over more then one season to use anyone in a long middle relief role ( unless it's garbage time or extra innings ) is a good thing. Be specific, or I can't take you seriously.

I see war they are saying as a compliment. Also, the whole "hitting someone as retaliation" is so old man game, especially because of a celebration. If someone in the NBA hit a game winning shot and just walked back to the bench I'd be pissed because sports live on emotion.

Let's respond by hurling a ball at his face at 95 mph.
