jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 STDEV: Wingels 13.30 Plekanec 10.88 Marleau 10.75 If you want to trade for the best payer in the league. I'm all ears! Wingels was great for the Sharks last night. That first goal from the side of the net was sick.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 It's a shame we didn't have faceoffs won and lost as categories. I feel like those are a lot more indicative of a player's skill than SH%, and they appropriately add value to Cs (and especially C/Ws).

Yeah usually face-offs is always a category in most fantasy leagues.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Not sure if it's a lot more, it's just guys who take FO. They're pretty random (not saying SH% isn't somewhat random either). I like having at least one rate stat in there somewhere though. I love the aspect of trying to find wingers who take faceoffs though. FO's >>>>> SH % (or plus/minus) for me.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 So yahoo isn't bother to indicate which players are playing this year? I check in at 6:45 to see who's playing, and nothing is indicated.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Flyers are down 5-4 and Luke Schenn is -5.
Frag Verified Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Maatta with a 3-assist game. Sweet!
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 It sure is nice having 2 elite goalies.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 It sure is nice having 2 elite goalies. Yup, it was nice letting Howard and Lundqvist do their thing today. Pretty happy to have two quality starters.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Flyers are down 5-4 and Luke Schenn is -5. Lol hes terrible (in actual hockey). In my other league I have a lot of Flyers and am -10 through 2 days.
vanland Verified Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Hi guys. Just want to say, in case I never get to post again,MASON RAYMOND!!!!!! Okie. That is all. But also: what a f***in flames/oil game for me! Okay that Is really all. For now.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 So dumb that the AHL/NHL doesn't let guys under 20 play in the AHL if they have junior eligibility left. Sucks for the guys like Lazar who are probably best served going to the AHL to develop but can't.
GoldBull Verified Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 How does it work with scoring the h2h matchup in this league? If I win my matchup 7-4, am I 7-4-0, or 1-0-0?

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Jeff Skinner wasn't a very good pick. f*** Concussions. In round 2 also, ouch. So, does that mean he's damaged goods going for a penny on the dollar?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 In round 2 also, ouch. So, does that mean he's damaged goods going for a penny on the dollar? This made me check out the draft results, whereupon I noticed that you drafted Evander Kane before Kopitar and Couture. Sorry about that.

Sorry about that. Sorry about what? I got the guys I wanted based on what I was building (just noticed that Kane went down last night, so maybe I shouldn't laugh too much at King). Only pick I wasn't happy about was Hjalmarsson, who was a mistake (accidentally clicked on the wrong guy).
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Oh just sorry about the fact that Kane isn't as good as those other two. I prefer winning, but to each their own.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Oh just sorry about the fact that Kane isn't as good as those other two. I prefer winning, but to each their own. I'm expecting Kane to really break out this season. Regardless, I've made it pretty clear that I don't expect to compete this year, and I think Kane is a better fit for me longer term. We'll see.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I'd take Kopitar over Couture but they're both monsters.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Really? Couture is a dynasty stud I think. Far more valuable than Kane. Don't get me wrong, I like Couture too (also had him very high in my pre-draft rankings), and in fairness to King, had Skinner pretty high also. I had Kane and Wheeler both like two or three spots ahead of them though, and obviously those guys were gone before my 3rd pick. If Kane breaks out like I think he will, I think the hits will put him over the top. Time will tell.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I was pretty adamant about us taking BGA with our 2nd pick, and I'm glad we did. All my fantasy hockey championship squads have had 2 very good goalies and another mediocre one for depth. Wheeler in the 1st is pretty much a dynasty nuking. You must be a serious Jets homer.

I'm a Canucks fan. Let's see where these players end up after this season. BTW, over the last two years, the only real difference between Wheeler and Kopitar is a large gap in +/- for Kopitar (a stat hard to predict more than a year or two ahead in dynasty), and additional hits, and blocks for Wheeler. Everything else was pretty damn even. With the Jets presumably on the rise, I expect to see Wheeler's numbers go up. Again, we'll see.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Well, Kopitar is younger, a C, has more PPG, and plays for a much better team. There's a reason Kopitar is +85 over the last four seasons, he's a two-way superstar on a championship calibre team. If you draft a bunch of Kings, Bruins, and Penguins, odds are your +/- will be pretty damn good. It's not completely random by any means.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Are the Jets really on the rise though, it's the same team thats been mediocre for the last 3 seasons except for shuffling bottom 6 forwards/defenseman and backup goaltenders. No, the Jets are bloody awful. And Wheeler isn't even young.

If you draft a bunch of Kings, Bruins, and Penguins, odds are your +/- will be pretty damn good. It's not completely random by any means. Kopitar is almost exactly 1 year younger I think, not a big deal. No, +/- certainly isn't completely random, but it's only partially under a player's own control (which was the point). If he gets traded, or (two?) years from now moves on to a poorer defensive team (like Wheeler is on) as a FA, those numbers likely nosedive, although probably stay positive. That sort of thing is the reason that I think you can only project +/- out for a year or two. Over the last 2 years, Wheeler: 130 games, 47 goals, 63 assists, +1, 240 hits, 107 blocks, 10 PPG, 16 PPA, 354 shots Kopitar : 129 games, 39 goals, 73 assists, +48, 160 hits, 69 blocks, 10 PPG, 29 PPA, 298 shots If it's extended to a 3rd year, Kopitar evens out the goals and keeps the assist lead, but everything else basically keeps the same pattern. I admit that Kopitar does have a more extensive history of high end play. Especially considering Wheeler has been producing on a bad team, and Kopitar on a good team, I don't think it's unreasonable to think that Wheeler could be equally valuable going forward. If the Jets take a leap forward (and I do think they will), he could be more valuable imo. I don't think at the range they were picked, one is a fantasy killer while the other is an absolute stud, but I do understand people preferring Kopitar. I also admit however that, unlike baseball, I'm really just a casual hockey fan. I don't dive too deep into the advanced hockey stats, so maybe they say something different.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Out of curiosity, what would people be willing to pay for the #2 waiver priority?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Out of curiosity, what would people be willing to pay for the #2 waiver priority? I don't even see what waiver priority will be useful for in this league. I doubt a really good player gets dropped and there's no IFA market.
