z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Can someone check to see if JFAS picked on proboards? I'm not logged in to proboards on my ipad. The 24 hour clock they had expires in a few minutes nobody on the PB's but me. is this just their first clock I assume?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Brendan Leipsic of the Portland Winterhawks!
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 I mean, I don't see how taking an undrafted player is in any way advantageous and is likely extremely disadvantageous, so I'll leave it up to Randy. He can re-select a player that hasn't been drafted (so no poaching someone behind him) or keep the pick. Dunno why undrafted players are prohibited. TCA can weigh in here too as our supreme overlord.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Mitch Holmberg (GD/Dinger) doesn't belong to an NHL parent team either, I don't believe. He signed an ATO with OKC near the end of last season, but not an entry level deal with Edmonton. Isn't he still under contract with them? Idc, I can redraft if true but that sucks cause it was so long ago that now some of my guys are gone or I can stick with him, which I also wouldn't mind We'll wait for TCA to rule before making any changes
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 I don't see the problem here as long as nobody is picked BEFORE they're draft eligible.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Is there a particular reason why a good nhl prospect would go undrafted?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Interesting. This was the article I saw on Holmberg originally and figured by the first paragraph that he was a legal add: http://oilersnation.com/2014/4/1/edmonton-oilers-sign-mitch-holmberg The rules don't deal with this, but it seems to me that since he signed an amateur tryout offer that he would be considered property of the organization for the purposes of the draft.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I don't see why the rules shouldn't allow it. How is drafting a player that was passed on by all 30 teams after entering the NHL draft in any way more advantageous than drafting a player who was actually taken in the NHL draft?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I think it's fairly apparent that it's against the rule King the question is if it should even be a rule in the first place
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Instead of looking at whether it's against the rule as currently written, we should be looking at whether it's against the spirit of the rule (intended to prevent us from drafting McDavid and Eichel this year). If GD wants Holmberg, he should have Holmberg. We don't need to be pedantic here.

Granted, I like Holmberg the most out of them, so I'd rather keep him, but again, more so about Randy.

Rule should just be re-written to state that any draft-eligible player who hasn't played an NHL game is eligible to be drafted.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 "Unowned players who have never played an NHL game and have participated in the NHL draft are eligible to be drafted." How does that sound?
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I understand what you're saying and agree, but what about the owners that passed on guys thinking the player wasn't eligible? Thats happened several times already, meh, it doesn't matter to me, this is on the commissioner. Has anyone passed on Holmberg or the guy Randy took that I've never heard of?
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Man I've never heard of 90% of these prospects prior to this draft.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I'll be up north all this week, so very limited internet access. I'll try and still make my picks though.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2014 Author Posted July 14, 2014 Why hasn't Proboards main list been updated? It's well behind. I was on a weekend bender. It'll be updated this morning once I catch up on a few things.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2014 Author Posted July 14, 2014 Regarding the RTR and GD picks... If one has to re-pick, both would have to re-pick. The rule was intended to stop people from picking someone like Connor McDavid or Jack Eichel. Next year it'll be changed to "If they were draft eligible for the NHL draft, they'll be able to be picked in our draft". I'd be inclined to allow it this year, but some people may have passed on these guys because they thought they weren't available. Like JFaS with Dane Fox, even though that is different since he was eligible to begin with. I'll have a quick chat with the 2 co-commishs, and we'll come up with a decision.
Frag Verified Member Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I'll be up north all this week, so very limited internet access. I'll try and still make my picks though. You could send King a list, since he doesn't pick until after your 2 picks.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2014 Author Posted July 14, 2014 I'll make my pick here in a second. I talked with the other 2 co-commishes and we figured that it should be fine to pick a player that every NHL team passed on 7 times. I'll clarify the rule so that it says that players that were eligible to be drafted in the NHL entry draft are fair game.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2014 Author Posted July 14, 2014 Also, as I'm filling in the prospect list I'm missing a picks 102-Wilko and 103-gd.

"Unowned players who have never played an NHL game and have participated in the NHL draft or have a contract with a professional team are eligible to be drafted." -Unowned players; can't take another guy's prospect -Never played in an NHL game; prospect status -Participated in the NHL draft; no Eichel/McDavid -Contract with a professional team; college signees covered Sound good?

havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Made my selection. Jaysfever is OTC.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Get rid of the extended character for Spanky's pick 107 or no one will find it when they search.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Who else is looking at a random ranking list for fantasy prospects and taking the highest guy on the board
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Who else is looking at a random ranking list for fantasy prospects and taking the highest guy on the board I just glanced over a bunch of rankings from different sources before I looked up a few kids on hockeydb.
