Flamingweazel Verified Member Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 I know it is early, but I have a feeling this road trip will be really telling as to what to expect from this team this season. I have not been impressed with what i have seen so far, we had 3 what i like to call Swing games, or those games that build momentum over the course of a long season, they crapped the bed in all 3 losing them all, last one in tampa, last game against the yanks, and last night. The offense looks as inconsistent as last year, too reliant on the home run, and goes quiet for long stretches at a time. Lets hope Mcgowan ahs a good start as the o's have a tough lineup.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 It's the first road trip of a 162 game season. There will be nothing telling about this series. All you can hope is that they win at least 5/9. In a sport where winning only 55% of the time gets you into a playoff race, you can't make too much of any short stretch.

Disagree, yuo can tell fairly quickly what the makeup of a team is, and for this season this is an important road trip. go 1-8 or 2-7 it will really hurt, after last season this team needs to get off to a good start

I kinda looked at last night's game as a barometer of how this team will perform this year. I didn't come out surprised. This team has lacked killer instinct for years, and constantly fails to sweep teams they should sweep. I'm not expecting much. I think our projected record is where we'll be at when all is said and done: 81-81.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 I kinda looked at last night's game as a barometer of how this team will perform this year. Ah. So you used 1 game to judge the future performance of the team. You are an very intelligent individual. Yankees lost 2 to the astros btw.

I'm not saying you should judge any team based off one game, but you're telling me the loss last night wasn't Deja Vu all over again? This "consistently inconsistent" team lacks the ability to put away teams, and sweep teams they should sweep. I don't care what the Yankees did. They will 8 or 9 times out of 10 handle the teams they should.

I just don't agree with your statement that yesterday's game is very telling of the team's future performance.

I'm just saying that going off past performance, and the fact that our "ace" couldn't put away one of the worst teams in the sport... That doesn't exactly exude confidence in a fan base starving for playoff baseball, now does it? Hope I'm wrong, but it's just a feeling I got after last night.

Houston hit 4 homers off Weaver and also knocked Sabathia around.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Houston hit 4 homers off Weaver and also knocked Sabathia around. People like to forget that other teams struggle too. Selective memory.

The jays always have them in those key Swing games, momentum building games, if you don't knwo what that means then that's that. The team lacks killer instinct, it's a thing the good teams always seem to have. This team folds.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 This is absurd. Anyone who judges a baseball team based on the first 10 games is lost. They play 162 games for a reason, because it takes that long for things to really even out. Anyone who has watched baseball for as long as some people here claim would understand that better than the average fan.
Flamingweazel Verified Member Posted April 11, 2014 Author Posted April 11, 2014 http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o503/KimmieRocks/thinknot-1.gif A team has a soul, a mentality, you can tell pretty quick what that is, this team not surprisingly, being the same roster, is the same as last year, no heart, drive, folds quickly.

Wooo skippy, who said judge the team? i said it would be TELLING, as in give insight into the type of team it would, be, scrappy? Fighting spirit? You play 162 games because thats what MLB say u got too LOL, I knew after a few weeks last season that team was doomed, and it was, you could see it on the players faces, it's some zen s***.

TELLING to whom? Everyone will interpret things differently, thus forming their own opinions and essentially judging the team based on those opinions. You apparently look at players faces to assess the team. I on the other hand wait until a reasonable sample size has accumulated before jumping to conclusions.
