spats Verified Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 What if AA had not made the last 3 trades(Marlins,Mets,Indians? Here is what their roster could look like. SP-Alvarez,Hutch,Morrow,McGowan Redmond.Bp-Esentially the same minus Rodgers.Infield-Gomes ,Hech,Escobar Lawrie.Outfield-Same.Bench-D'Arnaud,Marisnick,Sierra,Goins(Isturis).Waiting in the wings-Syndergaard,Niccolino,Descalfani,Sanchez. They would have a much lower payroll and probably as good a team with a much brighter future.AA must have many sleepless nights thinking of what could have been.
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 AA must have many sleepless nights thinking of what could have been. Doubtful. I see a man, who if asked if he had a 2nd chance, would say that he'd make the same moves all over again.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Doubtful. I see a man, who if asked if he had a 2nd chance, would say that he'd make the same moves all over again. Which is fair. I mean, if the Angels offered Trout for Sanchez, Stroman and Lawrie, you would take it in a heartbeat and yell 'ROBBED' but then Trout ends up with a career-ending injury and the media would hound you, asking if you regret the deal. And you would say, "I'd make the same move all over again"
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 And we'd be all whining about the 100 loss team last year. You can't just keep loading up on prospects, especially with 40-man roster considerations. Hech wouldn't be here anyway, as he barely hits in Miami. And that rotation, even with potential, does not equal contention.
spats Verified Member Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 But you could at least keep the good ones and contend in a couple years.Do you see this team contending anytime soon? Hech would be a better option than Goins who will have carry the load for Reyes.Besides, they would have enough money to go out and sign someone like Drew.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 This is what could have been: LF Melky RF Bautista 1B EE DH Lind 3B Lawrie CF Rasmus C TDA SS Escobar 2B Aviles Bench: C Mathis/Gomes/Navarro(If we chose to sign him)/Kratz(Best post-Farrell trade?), INF Hech, OF Sierra, another bench player Morrow Alvarez Synder Hutch McGowan Same old BP minus Rogers and plus Silston Farm pieces: Nicolino, Marisnick, DeSclafani + extra Payroll: Probably near San Diego's payroll of $92MM. We could have easily used up to $20MM AAV for a #1 in the offseason and not get burned
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
