Then why was his SwStr% and O-Swing% on both his FB and CH better in 2013 than 2012?

 

He didn't throw very many changeups to really do much with the data (~40 or something according to Brooks). As for the fastball, he dramatically increased the usage of his sinker last year, which may have more to do with the swing rate.

Look at the PitchFX tab on FanGraphs player page. It has all the stats for each pitch type.

 

It seems to disagree with Brooks Baseball (whom they recommend as an outside source due to their pitchfx accuracy). I wonder which is correct? Brooks has incredible breakdowns for all the data, which is very cool!

The point isn't that being a baseball data analyst is a dream job

 

The point is that JFaS will probably end up as one, because he's good at it, and most of the people disagreeing with him in this thread..... aren't.

 

If you look to your left, you can see the graveyard of baseball players that ECJF thought were good. If you look to your right, you can see dozens of posters agreeing with his opinion on player talent. Hmmm.
