Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Melky in CF. That's a bold move.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Rasmus benched for a spring training game for that error yesterday? LOL
flafson Verified Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Melky in CF. That's a bold move. It's actually the 2nd game as CF.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Melky in CF. That's a bold move. It's part of a possible roster plan:
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Yep, it's so they don't have to keep either Pillar or Gose. I haven't watched any games in a week and a half. Have they both looked as bad at the plate as the numbers suggest?
flafson Verified Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I haven't watched any games in a week and a half. Have they both looked as bad at the plate as the numbers suggest? Hard to say, there wasn't a tv broadcast in a while.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Yep, it's so they don't have to keep either Pillar or Gose. So are you saying if Rasmus gets injured, Melky will be in CF?

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 So are you saying if Rasmus gets injured, Melky will be in CF? Sounds like that's Gibby's plan if he "continues to look good" there I miss Rajai already. Gose will be in Buffalo. Sierra May or may not hit. We have no speed on the bench either way. Not good.
flafson Verified Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 So are you saying if Rasmus gets injured, Melky will be in CF? They will probably call someone up if Rasmus gets injured. I guess this move it to allow Gibbons to pinch hit Sierra for Rasmus if there is a need for a righty bat.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Career -7.5 UZR/150 in CF , and he hasn't played an inning there since 2011. Honestly, f*** this team. Seriously.. If Rasmus goes down, how can AA even fathom putting anybody in CF except Gose to play such a demanding position. I think its time for AA to get the f*** out of dodge.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I think they're giving themselves options in case Pillar or Gose don't show them something. Even if Melky is slashing .350/.400/.500 , he'll still be a negative value to the club in CF.

Honestly, f*** this team. not sure why people are getting their panties in such a twist. they are only trying to see if they can put melky there for a couple innings if Rasmus gets hurt in game. IF Rasmus gets hurt long term the team would just bring Goes up. so in the long run it's just a short term escape plan, but people are reacting like Melky will be the every CF... get a life peeps

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Doesn't look like there will be a stream for the game today. No Astros broadcast.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 And you know this as fact because.. because not even Gibbons is that stupid. Sierra CANT play CF. if Melky can be an emergency guy then they can boot Gose and his limp bat back to AAA. much better than giving away Sierra just to keep Gose up to sit on the bench.

I know Gibby knows, but who the f*** knows whats going on with Mrs. Doubtfire and the mini Adrian Adonnis.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 It's just annoying that this team always bleeds runs by taking shortcuts everywhere. Just this one topic (Melky playing CF in a pinch) is a result of multiple shortcuts/oversights: 1) Going with an 8-man pen because... I guess because they don't want to waive Jeffress? 2) Not acquiring a suitable RH bat to platoon with Lind. 3) Not acquiring a suitable 4th OF if they didn't trust Gose or Pillar to do the job. So now we have a situation where the team will likely be using a 3-man bench. Two of those players are completely useless (Sierra and Izturis). The opening-day 25-man will thus lack a capable platoon-mate for Lind, a capable backup CF, and a capable backup infielder. All positions that should have been addressed this offseason. 1)Sierra will platoon with Lind at DH and be backup RF/LF 2)who in their right mind would trust Gose or Pillar. 3) I agree with the fact that AA should have dealt or booted Izturis. at least Blair has guaranteed us that the Expos will take the best team north of the border. Izturis needs to retire. cant hit, cant throw cant catch... but he's got a contract. AA needs to trade an arm out of the f***ing bullpen.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I know Gibby knows, but who the f*** knows whats going on with Mrs. Doubtfire and the mini Adrian Adonnis. at least they are trying to figure out how to keep Sierra. If Melky has to play CF two days in a row, AA and gibbons need to be fired.

If Melky has to play CF two days in a row, AA and gibbons need to be fired. I agree in trying to figure out a way to keep Sierra, but Melky in CF, even in a pinch is scary. The eight man pen is f***ing things up, but i don't blame AA with a starting rotation like this. I'd rather let Bautista or Goins play CF in a pinch. Santana really f***ed us because if he signed, we could of went with a seven man pen and have Gose on the bench. We need Gose's late inning pinch running and defense. f***.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2014 Author Posted March 13, 2014 Sounds like that's Gibby's plan if he "continues to look good" there I miss Rajai already. Gose will be in Buffalo. Sierra May or may not hit. We have no speed on the bench either way. Not good. Man Rajai was a hell of a 4th OF. Speed and hitting vs. LHP and in his last season, good defense.
flafson Verified Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 The point wasn't that they don't have bodies on the roster to fill those spots. It was that they don't have capable bodies. Sierra is a disaster in the OF, and won't hit enough to be a viable DH, even in a platoon role. He's a wasted roster spot. Regarding Gose/Pillar I'm not saying necessarily that management should have trusted one of them as a 4th OF. I'm saying that a capable 4th OF should have been brought in if management doubted Pillar/Gose could do the job. Which they clearly do given the Melky-to-CF experiment. The current state of the 25-man resembles that of a team entering the offseason with multiple items on its checklist of needs. Only it's mid-March. To be honest, i wouldn't mind this situation too much if they had signed a starting pitcher or two, since they got no one, it's a little bit scary. This situation screams for a trade in my opinion.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 man rajai was a hell of a 4th of. Speed and hitting vs. Lhp and in his last season, barely passable defense. ftfy
