theblujay Verified Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 So it was more fun watching the Jays in 2011 and 2012 when you were excited at the prospect of what 4 or 5 players 1,000km away that you have likely never seen personally play and likely post-2014 away from being on the team then it was in 2013 because those said players now "might" yet still make an impact while Dickey, Buerhle and Reyes actually play and provide major league results? It seems you have issues. Hahaha settle down. If last year was fun at all for you I'll be truly surprised. No results, an old, injured, unlikeable team, and no future (Young players/ prospects).
theblujay Verified Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Pleasantly surprised that no one has said anything stupid. /gets to "why bother spending a draft pick" post/ Let's ignore that. Ubaldo + Drew at less than 90M would be so sexy. Enlighten me why we should give up a draft pick and money for a 2-maybe 3 win upgrade in a non-contending year
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Enlighten me why we should give up a draft pick and money for a 2-maybe 3 win upgrade in a non-contending year How are you so sure this is a non-contending year? If we trade for Shark, sign drew and pick up a suitable platoon for Lind (ie. Baker or Denorfia) Do you still feel the same? How many of us thought it was a non contending year for the Sox last year too?

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Can never be sure but so much has to go right. No. 1 being stay healthy, an unlikely proposition for this crew. Absolutely. But we're not the Astro's either. A 2nd base upgrade would provide the biggest boost in terms of Wins and if we can do that via Drew + add a pitcher it's not so crazy anymore if we stay relatively healthy. Saying that...i don't think Drew signs here.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Dream Scenario: AJ Burnett - 1 year 15 million. Trade: Shark for Sanchez, Nolin and Nay. Sign: Drew 3 years 33 million. Sign: Jeff Baker.
theblujay Verified Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Let me ask you: Will the player we draft with the 2nd round pick have a better chance at providing more wins than Drew? How much do you value wins in a year we don't make the playoffs?
theblujay Verified Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 How are you so sure this is a non-contending year? If we trade for Shark, sign drew and pick up a suitable platoon for Lind (ie. Baker or Denorfia) Do you still feel the same? How many of us thought it was a non contending year for the Sox last year too? Well I thought last year we had a great chance to make the playoffs, but now after seeing the team play and seeing the strength of our division I'm not counting on it.
theblujay Verified Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Yep...seasons over already! Pack it in guys I never knew you to be an optimist. All I want to see is competitive games past July, but I'm trying to be realistic here. Right now I'd pick us to come in 4th or 5th in our division easily. Drew himself isn't going to get us there, and I'm not willing to give up picks, Sanchez, Nay + and money to have a chance at a WC spot. Even if we made all those deals, are we set up any better than we thought we were last year? Look what happened.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 My dream has already happened. JP is off the team, anything else that happens is a bonus. My dream was replacing JP with more than a 0.5 fWar upgrade.
theblujay Verified Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Who cares about your picks? Current team ~85 wins by Steamer. What did Steamer have last year? And before you say it was an anomaly, this is basically the same team, but older.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Wasn't an anomaly, it was the low end of the standard distribution around the mean of projected wins. Picturing my casual fan friends reading this and their heads exploding collectively.
theblujay Verified Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 I'm just bitter because I'm fed up with this org. The first draft I ever followed all the way through from pre-draft to signing day was the Synder, Sanchez draft. I can clearly remember Syndergaard being picked and he instantly became one of my favorite prospects. Now that's all been taken away, and Sanchez could easily be on the move soon. How sad is it that one of the greatest moments of my time being a die-hard Jays fan is Arencibia's debut? How sad is it that all I want is to see meaningful games in July and last year I had Red Sox fan friends complaining about the upcoming season in April. I don't want to spend another year watching the team miss the playoffs with such a high payroll and a weak farm. I'm tired of not selling high and buying low on assets.

theblujay Verified Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Yep. Also you project everyone to be injured as much as they were last year? (to theblujay) Both Joses and Morrow are very injury prone. Dickey is special, but he's still 40. Lawrie is an injury waiting to happen. This just isn't a very healthy team. We haven't been healthy for years.

kgm1 Verified Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 I'd LOVE to see AA make a boss move like that - sign Jiminez for 13.5M and Drew for 9.5 per year and announce both at the same time while hiding a smirk. Signing both Drew and Jiminez gives the Jays a shot . Question what was the Soft cap s*** all about ??? Posturing ? Get Both and a healthy Morrow and Melky performing to expectations and the jays just may surprise .

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Wasn't an anomaly, it was the low end of the standard distribution around the mean of projected wins. Did the Red Sox hit their high end? I ask because I remember many here (old MLB board) talking about them like thebluejay is talking about the Jays...lol. I remember posters talking about how Napoli's hip would never hold up and s*** like that. Just pisses me off even more rehashing last season and how it went, or didn't go, better shut up and go sleep.

Last year was such a disaster I just want to flush it all away and go to back to where we were the year before: rebuilding with a good farm. I'm fine with not making the playoffs-(that's all I know since they haven't made the playoffs in my lifetime)-but the club better be taking a noticeable step forward every year. Plus its more fun to watch young guys
theblujay Verified Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Then leave and don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out. I don't understand fans who will bitch and whine how terrible it is cheering for the team and how unhappy it makes you. If you are truly unhappy you can stfu and stop cheering. You're my favorite new poster If last year didn't make you unhappy then you're not a Jays fan
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 I'm sure you'll love this forum lol.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Who cares about your picks? Current team ~85 wins by Steamer. Have you run the numbers using zips projections . I just find the 85 wins #seeming to be on the high end .
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 What would we do without rumors, especially in an off season like this year's? Rumors bring hope where there was little left...till they turn out untrue and leave you feeling depressed.
theblujay Verified Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 I was unhappy, I am however not going to come on here bitching and acting like a 16 year old girl whose life is ruined because she didn't get a brand new car on her birthday. There is more constructive ways to deal with the disappointment then coming in here and telling us how you feel and how your issuing ultimatums to a management team that doesn't give 2 shits about what you or any other fan thinks as long as people keep watching them on TV and buying tickets, lol. I'm glad you're all warm and fuzzy about the direction of this team. What do you think this board is for if we're not going to say how we feel about the team? I have an opinion that I'm going to share, if you have a problem then leave

theblujay Verified Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Your the one who has had it with the team, or is this the 10th "final straw" from the team for not doing what you want them to do? I'll be a Jays fan no matter what, not sure what you're talking about. Is it so offensive to you that I want the team to be set up better for the future and that I care enough to post about it?
theblujay Verified Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Let me help this situation out. What are your full, detailed thoughts on Ryan Goins and the Ryan Goins situation at hand? Don't bring Goins into this, he deserves better
