Since there was pretty good participation last year I decided to host this contest again this year. I'm posting this early so that everyone has a chance to find out about it before the season starts... and because nothing else is happening. For those who are new, this is just a simple/fun contest that makes each game a bit more interesting to watch. All you need to do is pick a player you think will hit a home run during each game. It's fine if you don't pick every game, and you can join in at any time during the season. To make things more interesting, all home runs will count this season and not just the first one. There is however, a small bonus for picking the first home run each game. To make sure that people don't just pick the same person the entire season, you can only pick the same player 4 times each week. I will try my best to keep things updated and may ask for help if I'm away for a long period of time. Hopefully there is a lot of participation again this year and some good competition. • Pick a player on the Jay's starting lineup that you think will hit a home run at ANY TIME during each game.
  
• You can only pick the same player 4 times during each week (Monday-Sunday)
  
• If you pick a correct player you will earn the corresponding points.
  
• Players less likely to hit a home run will be worth more points than those more likely to knock one out.
  
• Point values will change daily depending on hot and cold streaks, and will be posted before each game.
  
• You can only pick one player and you must have your pick in before the first Blue Jays at bat.
  
• *Weekend games will be "bonus days" (pick two players, pick players from other team etc.) Schedule in 2nd thread post
  
• You may post your pick before the daily lineups are posted if you will not be online before the game starts.
  
• If you are going away, you can PM Dylan your picks for the upcoming games (Max 5 games)
  
• Streaks will get you bonus points. Streaks must be in consecutive games, if you miss a game your streak is over.
  
• *The season will be divided into two sets at June 9th, 2014, playoff information is posted below.

Season divided into 2 sets

First Half: March 31st-June 8th. (64 games)

Second Half: June 9th - August 20th (63 games)

 

- Top 14 members from the first half move on to the playoffs

- 1st place from each half get a bye to the final playoff round,

- 2nd place from each half get a bye to the second playoff round.

- Playoff ties go to the member with the most overall points during the season.

- Top 9 members in the second half move on (doesn't include those who clinched a spot in the first half, unless it's for a bye)

- Still important for those who make playoffs in the first half to increase overall points during the second half.

Round 1: August 22nd-September 4th (Top members from each half (19 members), not including the 4 byes)

Round 2: September 6th- September 17th (Top 12 members from round 1, +2 2nd byes)

Round 3: September 18th-September 28th (Top 6 members from round 2, +2 Byes)

Playoff Conflicts

- If a member that ranked 3rd-14th in the 1st half wins a bye in the 2nd half, their previous playoff position will go to the member with the most overall points that is currently not in a playoff spot.

- If a member that received a 2nd bye in the first half wins the 1st place bye in the 2nd half, the 3rd place member in the first half receives the 2nd bye, and their previous playoff position will go to the member with the most overall points that is currently not in a playoff spot .

- If a member that received a 2nd bye in the first half, also wins a 2nd bye in the 2nd half, the 3rd ranked member in the 2nd half will get the bye.

- If the same member wins both first byes, the member that ranked 2nd in the 2nd half receives the 1st bye and 3rd rank receives the 2nd.

I'm probably going to create a "2014 MLB Predictions Contest" in Spring Training, based on the success of FAPC and how well Google Docs have worked for that. You're the early favourite for it lol.

Hmmm. That seems like an interesting way. It would give players who have fallen behind by the halfway mark a chance to play for something towards the end of the season!

 

That's what I was thinking.. the playoffs last season were more than dull, they were brutal lol.

I know that if we were to do double points, I'd have to post it well before so everyone will know.. not sure if it is worth making a pre-arranged bonus day schedule and post it, or just do it randomly throughout the season.

You could also have a bonus day where you pick a player from one of the Jays MiLB affiliates to hit a home run.

 

EX: Pick a Buffalo Bison player that will hit a home run tonight

Sounds good. A schedule would help to keep some interested who want to win but may not be free every game to participate.
