Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Just as expected the Yankees signed Tanaka... shocker Now lets move on.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 that would be suicide....given the salary escalation you can't trade a guy who's on that contract bringing that production....I'd rather overpay for one of the three starters out there than trade 3 years of EE for 2 years of Price....filling one hole and creating another will not get the jays where they need to be... I agree with you there but will you still say as much if it really happens or will you take the optimist's point of view?
Cooler Heads Prevail Verified Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Baseball is a joke man, always the same teams every year signing the good players. makes being a Jays fan depressing knowing we will never get a guy like darvish, tanaka, seems no one really wants to sign here either. Dave Winfield, Jack Morris, Paul Molitar, Roger Clemens, Rickey Henderson, Frank Thomas Never ??? Already happened. Jays history didn't start in year 2000. You may think you know what the future will bring but when you get older you'll know things can change on a dime.
awsomest Verified Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Given the current state of the farm, that wouldn't be such a big deal. Sadly though I don't think the Rays want the farm, they wan't EE and they just might get him. If the jays trade EE for price that would be f***ed. honestly just blow it up if your best option is to do stupid s*** like that
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 The Jays' payroll is $135 million with apparent potential to go up towards $150. That they have chosen to waste assets via trade rather than target quality free agents doesn't reflect poorly on baseball's economic system. It reflects poorly on management. Reyes and Buehrle cost almost $50 million more than the total investment in Yu Darvish. And they have up good assets for them. Hey, you aren't allowed to say that now. You were just as excited as everyone else was last offseason and you know it! Can't fault AA for our present situation because we all would have made those moves too!

Im talking the present LMAO, things have changed drastically since those days.............. Payrolls have sky rocketed.

Can't fault AA for our present situation because we all would have made those moves too! Im still ok with the moves made last year. The part thats pissing me off is that the team wasn't willing to back it up this year nor tear it down. So now we go into a year with a very strong AL East again with little hope and no real future........ I need a drink.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 CC Tanaka Kuroda Nova Phelps Pineda, Warren ugh.
Convo Verified Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 CC Tanaka Kuroda Nova Phelps Pineda, Warren ugh. Suddenly Yankees rotation is looking pretty good.

AA is fully aware of how much of a PR nightmare that would be. If we get Price, he's just going to empty the farm again.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 @Ken_Rosenthal: BREAKING: Tanaka to #Yankees, seven years, $155M, opt-out after fourth year. f*** this so hard f***!!!

If we get Price, he's just going to empty the farm again. If Price gest moved for prospects I think it will be for another team's prospects. I don't think AA has a shot unless he moves EE and he might be too desperate to do the right thing and walk away.

What's really depressing is that our front office refuses to adjust to this reality and patiently build through the farm. 21 years of no playoffs now and already a lock for last place in the division.... this s*** is a joke!

kgm1 Verified Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 So much for the Yankees getting under the 189 Luxury tax ceiling . And if they aren't under they will now blow it up . Expect them to sign Balfour to close . I would not even be surprised if they sign Drew . Not like we didn't expect this . We play in a division with spendaholics . Don't know how AA can be blamed for that . So much for that perfect storm senario that Beeston and Rogers sold AA on . LOL at the 3 year window . Now a trade of prospects would be absolutely crazy . Team has to go back to what AA and the Beest promised and build thru the farm Last years deals set us back 3 to 5 years but sqaundering assets now would only make it worse . Just have to play it out till July , hope the injury god targets the other AL East teams and if not start the rebuild .
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Time to switch with Detroit or Cleveland and go to the central division.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 You're 100% correct on that one. There's nfw this MLB rookie is worth that kind of money. it's been said that Strasburg would have got $150M coming out of college if he was a free agent.

No, LOL at you and your more delusional friend (jaybooster) for buying that s*** and repeatedly spewing it as a fact. Edited January 23, 2014 by Smokey
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 More than I would have been willing to pay for him, so I'm not really upset one way or another. I still don't really like the Yanks team. It helps them, but I don't think it vaults them up the standings greatly.

BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 CC Tanaka Kuroda Nova Phelps Pineda, Warren ugh. A lot depends on Sabathia and Tanaka. If CC is the guy we saw last year, and Tanaka is only meh and nothing special, then all of a sudden it doesn't look so hot.
