G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 LOL, that will most likely happen. But, why do you think AA would rather go after Shark then Garza/Tanaka who are better imo if there are no payroll constraints? I mean, you would think he would sign a FA pitcher since there are still several decent ones left, then use the trade chips he has for a 2b. Assuming we don't have a payroll limit for the moves. A free agent starter is what he SHOULD do, because that way we get to keep Stroman and Sanchez. Then, if they are looking good and cheap, he can trade off a more expensive Bueurle or Happ. Problem is, Tanaka or Garza may simply want more than he'll pay, OR want to play for another team for the same amount of money as AA will offer. Certainly, a cost controlled younger starter via trade would be fantastic, but might cost either BOTH of those guys, or one of them and a major league position player. He probably can't make the team better by doing that.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 According to Sponichi in Japan, the Rakuten Golden Eagles have decided to post pitcher Masahiro Tanaka. Given the nature of this saga and its constant conflicting reports, this news item must be taken with a grain of salt. But it will bring about excitement across the Major League Baseball landscape nonetheless. Tanaka, 25, went 24-0 with a 1.27 ERA and 183/32 K/BB ratio in 212 innings this past summer in Nippon Professional Baseball and can probably command a contract worth more than $100 million state-side. To negotiate with him, big league teams will have to put up a $20 million posting fee
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Dylan hernandez is saying that "Sponichi" is reporting Tanaka is being posted http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2013/12/24/5242726/masahiro-tanaka-reportedly-posted-by-rakuten-eagles
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Lets hope there was no money spent so far this winter because AA is banking on spending the majority,if not all, of his allowance on Tanaka.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 @NewYorkPost: Toronto has won the bid.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 C'mon guys. AA wouldn't dare to be this quite this off season after going all in on a three year time frame with management approval now would he? I think we win the Tanaka bid.
