Boston won the World Series without a legitimate ace/No. 1 starter.

Pointless point.

Anyone would rather have 5 good SP than 1 ace (even if Clayton) and crap

Our AAA rotation is supposed to be Stroman, Hutchison, Drabek, Nolin and one of Romero/McGuire with Sanchez in AA. Add that along with a whole lot of fringy long relievers/spot starters, I wouldn't consider this s*** depth.

They are depth starters for a reason, they aren't supposed to be stars.

The OP has Hutch in starting 5.. So you have Stroman when hes ready..then the other guys but theyre org guys. Non-guys. Sachez doesnt count as anything but prospect this year

Im not saying its s*** depth.. Just not something other teams cant match in production if they needed to from their farm or mlb scrap heap. Jays just wouldnt need to look outside their org..but maybe a DFA candidate would be superior if they get to Nolin and beyond

Which is why we need to sign a pitcher and keep our depth.

We also really f***ing need a 2nd basemen.

We should sign Drew to play 2B.

Well..

I think there's a very, very low chance hutch starts this season in the rotation. Chalk him up as depth.

Ha. Well played with the quotes:)

I will just say having the depth is nice.. But it doesnt mean nearly as much if the starting 5 is s***. They arent there to save rotations.

Most of my arguement was based on the OP being content with the rotatio cause we had "depth"

I think since Jiminez is Dominican he might be willing to come here without us paying a premium. Not that i really want him...just saying.

Why would Jimenez be inclined to sign in Toronto at a discount because he's Dominican?

Bautista, Encarnacion, Reyes, Cabrera, Sierra, Rogers, Perez, he may have a relationship with a few of them. Realistically though, he`ll probably take the best offer and it`s unlikely to be a factor.

Edit: Even though it`s unlikely to be a factor in FA, I still think there`s some value in the so-called ``Dominican connection`. For example, if the price on Starlin Castro were low enough he`d be an excellent target. If the problem is in his approach as people are suggesting, EE and Bautista would be ideal teachers.

Jimenez is looking for 17-20 million per season. I'm only biting on about 3/36, max.

Jimenez and Santana both had horrendous 2012 seasons, but are likely going to be paid as if it never happened. Santana especially seems a likely candidate for a significant regression in my opinion.

I'd still go higher than 3/36 for Jimenez though.

Nowhere..as usual though, hes calling someone out for not "genuinely loving" the game

Not calling anyone out. Just wondering why Kershaw & Trout's names needed to be mentioned?

I really don't understand the big panic to trade for/sign free agent pitching when you've got 13 possible options on your 40 man roster already, and a couple more wildcards like Romero and Stroman, that could also contribute. Not to mention one of the best SP prospects in the minors who could be ready as early as this season.

Because we apparently really, really need now pieces.

They are looking at Hutch/Drabek/Redmond and Happ as the 4/5 next season which doesn't inspire confidence.

Not all season. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with any of those guys being tagged as a #4 or #5. Although I'd rather see Drabek moved to the 'pen.

Wait, there's two Stromans now? :P

Sanchez is a non-factor at the major league level in 2014.

Kershaw and Trout = young MLB stars

Tanaka = young NBP star

This is not hard to figure out

I know. But why would these players need to be playing in order to buy tickets to the game?

Posted
It wouldn't surprise me to see Sanchez in September. If he excels in AA maybe even sooner.

There should be no rush, no matter how well Sanchez or the Jays are doing.

If Kershaw was pitching in my hometown in Asia, you would be sure as hell I would do everything I could to be at that game. If Yasunori Kikuchi was pitching, I wouldn't be doing everything in my power to make sure that I was at that game. Would I still go? Possibly.

Would I have Kershaws game marked on my calendar? Yes.

Would I have Kikuchis game marked on my calendar? No.

Interesting.

I never said he would sign here for a discount. I said he MIGHT sign here without us paying a premium for him to go north.

Can't compare Sanchez to Price or Martinez.

Can't assume the 2014 Jays are in a similar September situation to that of the 2008 Rays or 2013 Cards.

Sanchez just didn't belong in a post in which you also suggest trading Buehrle to see how the depth guys preform with more starts. In fact, if you trade Buehrle and start the season with the rotation you suggest, I'm positive this team won't be playing meaningful games in September and thus Sanchez can't make any kind of contribution.

I'm also looking for a raise at work. Doesn't mean it going to happen.

It doesn't matter if the Jays absolutely need Sanchez or not this year. He should not be in the majors this year, there's no reason.

Determining when to go watch a game based on when a particular pitcher is pitching.

There was a time that I would have agreed with you, but that was before I had to watch Ortiz pitch twice this year...never again.

Posted
Very few people do this?

I can't because I don't live in a city with an MLB team. I would be happy to go to any game.

I'm sure there's some people, but it isn't in the thousands per game. Might be a couple/few hundred.

Haha.

I guess it depends on whether you're buying your tickets beforehand, or have a choice whether or not you're going the day of the game. I'm rarely if ever a spur of the moment buyer and probably wouldn't go last minute if someone asked me to go, unless it was a significant game.

We really do need to do something about 2nd.

At this point i wouldn't even mind over paying for Dustin Ackley.

Trade for Ackley and sign 1 SP. Off season complete.

Martinez`s development is a year ahead of Sanchez, made AA at 21 preformed well, impressive command. He`s a better comparison to Syndergaard than Sanchez.

Price isn`t even remotely comparable, he was one of the more polished college pitchers in recent memory, he could have pitched the entire year in the majors rather than being a late season callup.

If Buehrle and Janssen are enough to land Kendrick than yeah I do that in a second, but that`s a pretty lopsided deal given Buehrle`s salary.
