Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Can the Jays give the Angels the pitching they want for Kendrick without overpaying? Maybe Buehrle + money

BTS Community Moderator Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Carson Cistulli's voice is truly terrible Yeah, but I don't mind him overall. I have the urge to steal Cameron's lunch money and stuff him in a locker or something. Kiley McDaniel is the best they have. I wish he talked about more than prospects.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 You have to consider what they're dangling. You just aren't going to get a decent pre arb pitcher for a 2-3 WAR second baseman with one year left on his contract. Same thing I said last off season...Buerhle + cash for Kendrick. It makes even more sense for both teams this year. Who plays 2B for them though? I feel like it marks more sense to just keep Kendrick and play the FA market.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 They still have Beckham,Grant Green and a couple youngsters that they think are getting close. Those guys really suck though.
Burgers Verified Member Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 (edited) Looking at their system it looks like pitching is actually the strength of it so it could be the plan to lock down a mid infielder via free agency and trade for a short term starter to bridge the gap till the injured and top specs are rdy. Weaver and Wilson both have 2 years left then it's Richards,Santiago,Shoemaker and Skaggs. Skaggs and Richards won't be rdy to start the season so a stop gap pitcher seems to fit the mold. Richards is on track to return sometime in April. Skaggs will miss the entire 2015 season. I'm curious, would any of you Jays fans do a trade of Aaron Sanchez for Kendrick and Cron? LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Love that Molitor will be Twins new manager... he always had a passion for the game, not sure if he has the chops to be a manager.
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Sanchez is Henderson Alvarez with less control right now. He still can't miss bats. ??? That's the worst comparison. I honestly expect more from you.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Sanchez is Henderson Alvarez with less control right now. He still can't miss bats. Sanchez has far better stuff, going by pitchfx considerably more velocity and movement
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Really? You must be higher on Cron and lower on Sanchez than me. I still think Sanchez as a 1-2, 4+ WAR, type starter and so far Cron has been slightly over replacement level. One year of Kendrick doesn't bridge the gap imo. One year of Kendrick in a supposed contending year is worth it IMO. I'm not that high on Sanchez anyways. I think he will be an alright SP, but not a 1/2.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 He'll definitely have to add to his repertoire to become a 1/2. If he can develop a + changeup I see an easy #2 possible ace. I don't question the potential, I'm more concerned about the walks. Once he gets a shot in the rotation it's not unreasonable to think his walk rate will take a big jump considering where it was in the minors. Hopefully his time in the pen helped him understand the value of his stuff.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Interesting piece about RSNs I found.. http://akiembailum.com/2014/08/09/part-2-when-sports-teams-want-to-be-the-media-csn-houston-sportsnet-la-and-masn/ Who in blazes is going to pay $4 just to see Dodgers games on Sportsnet LA? And we all know about the Comcast Sportsnet Houston bankruptcy (they're being turned into a ROOT Sports), and that MASN deal is still waiting to be resolved.. and the O's are really hoping it favors them. As for Sportsnet LA, Dodgers already are rumored to be cutting payroll in order to cover losses, and there's still a risk Sportsnet LA may face the same fate as Comcast Sportsnet Houston if things don't improve over the offseason.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 What is the approximate talent level of the KBO relative to an affiliated minor league level? Hyun-jin Ryu's peripherals don't seem markedly different between the KBO and MLB. What's to deal with Jeong-ho Kang - how much money is he going to get?

Japan has the best foreign prospects(outside of Cuba and the Dominican), as their league is AAA level.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Yeah, I remember hearing that NPB is roughly AAA level.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Would Happ and Reyes and throw in izturis, plus two of either a Nolin,Norris,Drabek,Jenkins,Estrada or Romero (Dream on) be enough for the Angels to part with aybar and Kendrick. Would it require money as well, how much? Or would it require a Sanchez or Stroman if no money is included? Do you do it? Would they?

One of these doesn't belong.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Just read on mlbtraderumours that the jays have discussed Martin do you see if they would trade him to us for Happ and Thole or Dickey and Thole ? Provide he signs with us first!
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 You grouped Nolin, Norris, Drabek, Jenkins and Estrada together? One of these doesn't belong. Do tell which? Why? Lol
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Not yet is he? Plus if we trade for him do we not avoid giving up a draft pick if they qualify him?
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Norris is worth more than Drabek, Nolin, Jenkins, and Estrada combined. I like Norris too and agree! But sometimes you gotta give to get!
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 As per Mlbtraderumors.com: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/11/blue-jays-have-discussed-signing-russell-martin.html The Blue Jays have had internal discussions about signing free agent catcher Russell Martin, Sportsnet.ca’s Jeff Blair reports. Needless to say, the Jays would have to outbid several teams in order to secure Martin, who is easily the top catcher on the open market. The Jays haven’t made any significant payroll expenditures in almost two years, though they’re trying to create some payroll flexibility in order to make some moves this winter, as evidenced by their trade of Adam Lind. With Martin a sure bet to receive a qualifying offer from the Pirates, the Jays would also have to give up their first-round draft pick (18th overall) as compensation for the signing. While surrendering a first-rounder would represent a shift in Toronto’s front office philosophy, the Blue Jays could get another draft pick back (between the first and second rounds) should Melky Cabrera sign elsewhere this offseason. Toronto already has Dioner Navarro under contract for one more season, though if Martin signed, Blair notes that Navarro would be shifted into a DH role. One would think Navarro wouldn’t be the primary DH and would split time between that spot and a backup catcher role, though that also raises the possibility that the Jays would part ways with current backup Josh Thole (whose option was picked up for 2015). Since Thole’s primary role with the Jays has been to catch for R.A. Dickey, his future with the team could depend on how well Martin or Navarro could handle the knuckleball. With Navarro already slated to start, the Jays were an off-the-board contender for Martin and thus not cited by MLBTR’s Tim Dierkes in his Top 50 Free Agent Predictions. Dierkes predicted Martin would sign the Cubs, with the Pirates and Dodgers also standing out as likely bidders.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I was going to make a thread but..Jeff Blair Yeah I don't think anyone should take this seriously.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Just saying if Martin did come here Navarro Is solid against LHP and Smoak is Solid against RHP...... Nice little platoon at DH/1st.....
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I've got a feeling this is going to be an extremely active offseason for AA. Can't wait to see which starter we deal, I'm really hoping it's Dickey and his sidekick.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Just saying if Martin did come here Navarro Is solid against LHP and Smoak is Solid against RHP...... Nice little platoon at DH/1st..... It would be a great signing and give this team a bit more roster flexibility if Navarro could be the primary backup C and platoon DH assuming they also dump Thole. I think we all know it's not going to happen, but man it would be nice.
