GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 Krol + Lombo + Ray for Fister confirmed by the Nats. Ouch. This one hurts.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Doug Fister is a borderline ace. Washington had better be giving up four good prospects. If not, it's a steal. NO, he's not. He's just a sinkerballer who can get groundballs keeping the ball down.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 12s #Nationals confirm it. It's Lombardozzi, Krol and Ray for Fister. #Tigers LOL WTF.......I FEEL LIKE WE GAVE UP MORE FOR HAPP
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Fister is not an ace. He's been a very solid pitcher over the last three years, though he's not an elite No. 1 starter. So you can name 30 pitchers who will outperform Fister next year?
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I THOUGHT AA DIDN'T LEAVE ANY STONES UNTURNED WHAT THE f***
BabbaGanoush Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 NO, he's not. He's just a sinkerballer who can get groundballs keeping the ball down. Not even close....
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 12s #Nationals confirm it. It's Lombardozzi, Krol and Ray for Fister. #Tigers LOL WTF.......I FEEL LIKE WE GAVE UP MORE FOR HAPP Musgrove + Asher + Perez + Comer is probably a better package.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 12s #Nationals confirm it. It's Lombardozzi, Krol and Ray for Fister. #Tigers LOL WTF.......I FEEL LIKE WE GAVE UP MORE FOR HAPP Yeah, that's one hell of a steal. Now we can rage lol.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 What a terrible package. Kinda seems like Detroit didn't shop him very hard or very long, we never heard anything about his availability and that is one lacklustre return.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Looks like a lot of talking heads are loving this deal for the Nats
BabbaGanoush Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 12s #Nationals confirm it. It's Lombardozzi, Krol and Ray for Fister. #Tigers LOL WTF.......I FEEL LIKE WE GAVE UP MORE FOR HAPP f***ing pathetic man....How can you only get one good prospect, a reliever with upside and a AAAA utility guy for one of the best pitchers in the game???
Ehjays Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Maybe GMs around the league figure when they talk to AA lets ask for his top prospects.......the guy always deals them
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Fister for s*** part 1: Charlie Furbush, Casper Wells, Francisco Martinez and PTBNL Fister for s*** part 2: Lombardozzi, Ray and Krol
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Ughhh this one hurts. Well a world series contender just got weaker so im ok with it.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 This is f***ed up. One of the best pitchers (and cheap!) in baseball for no premium pieces. This is completely senseless, I can't imagine what the f*** Detroit was thinking here. They didn't even get one impact prospect back for a durable SP2 at below market salary.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 #LoveThisTeam Why are you making this about the Blue Jays?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Too slow muahah Mods please merge Done
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Tigers go from having 4 dominating starters to 3 dominating starters. I wonder what hole they'll fill from the Nats I'm guessing they're doing this because they're on the verge of signing a free agent starter?
BabbaGanoush Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Is Sierra, Nolin, Santos an equivalent package as Ray, Krol, Lombardozi?
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 This is retarded..I would have been upset if we traded Buehrle for that load of crap the Nats are giving up..never mind someone like Fister
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I wouldn't have minded if we acquired Fister... That goes for all of us, but I don't see how that's a knock against the Blue Jays. Detroit made an idiotic trade. It's pretty obvious that they could have landed a better package if they shopped Fister better.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Is Sierra, Nolin, Santos an equivalent package as Ray, Krol, Lombardozi? Ray is a decent prospect > Nolin but Lambardozzi is nothing
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 So you can name 30 pitchers who will outperform Fister next year? What does the number 30 have to do with anything? Are there 30 No. 1 starters in all of baseball? In terms of an elite No. 1 starter, there aren't many around. I consider guys like Kershaw, Hernandez, Wainwright, Verlander etc. as true No. 1 starters.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Yep, it's a knock against all the other 28 teams, so why single out the Blue Jays. If we were named as the runners-up to acquire Fister, that would be something. Not necessarily. Like dinger said, it could have been a poor shop job by Detroit. I for one haven't heard a single Fister rumor all off-season.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 From 2011-13 Fister is ninth in fWAR with a 3.30/3.21/3.48 line. He doesn't give up any walks or home runs... who cares if he doesn't throw 95. He's durable and extremely effective. He's a great pitcher (not arguing that). I just don't consider him in the same class as a Kershaw, Hernandez, Wainwright etc, who I view as elite No. 1 guys.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Are there 30 No. 1 starters in all of baseball? By definition yes. The designations is meaningless otherwise. "Ace" is the more subjective designation.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 By definition yes. The designations is meaningless otherwise. "Ace" is the more subjective designation. So I guess that means Bud Norris all these years has been an ace and No. 1 starter with the Astros? When I use the word "ace" or "No. 1 starter," I'm not using them in the terms of a team's rotation. I'm using them in my own evaluations of pitchers and what they are. For example Norris was the "ace" of Houston's rotation, though do I consider him a true No. 1 starter - nope.
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 lol that's the return for Fister? Wow. What's the rush though? I mean surely they could have gotten at least one premium talent in return for an arm like Fister.
