Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Really? We should bid for Porcello last year.
BarrysSyringe Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 The Tigers must need to cut payroll to keep Scherzer. Even if that was the case, they could of done much better if those are the names involved
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I'd really like that for Detroit as well and if that was the case I'd understand why AA didn't end up getting him (I think it's safe to assume he was in on him). I don't think it will be Rendon. Detroit is already in good shape with Castellanos/Kinsler but I don't think Washington would move Rendon right now. That would leave them with Espinosa who they've shown they have no faith in. Imagine it was Rendon and then tomorrow we see a headline that says "Nationals sign Robinson Cano".
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 The Tigers must need to cut payroll to keep Scherzer. Should have traded Scherzer. He'd command a much bigger return since. Hardly think 1 more year of control with Fister would offset the difference in the skill level between the two.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 What else do the Nats even have other than Giolito? Cole and Goodwin have big question marks. I'll be upset if we weren't involved in this, Fister is a decent pitcher. Also, Chris Cotillo, the guy who broke this, the Nolasco signing and others, is apparently still in High School. Yeah, he's 17. http://www.communityadvocate.com/2013/04/30/115-2/ Looks like I just found my new role model lol.

Hardly think 1 more year of control with Fister would offset the difference in the skill level between the two. I think your underestimating Fister a bit. He's more than just a good pitcher, he's a damn good number two on a playoff team. Obviously he's not as good as Sherzer, but now with Fister moving to the NL, that gap will be reduced even more. I think that combined with the fact that he is not going to cost as much to sign an extension since he doesn't have the big sexy ks or wins like Sherzer and he has another year of control just might put them neck and neck on who I personally would want.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 Cotillo (actually) reporting that Fister will bring back 3/4 players likely including Lombardozzi and Ray. Bleh.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I have to say, if this is legit I definitely didn't see it coming. I wonder if the tigers would flip Lombardozzi to us?
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Fister has been a great pitcher the past three seasons. Pitching in the NL will be a breeze for him. Great move by the Nats if this is true. Adding Fister with Strasburg, Zimmerman and Gio definitely will give Atlanta a run in the NL East.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Cotillo (actually) reporting that Fister will bring back 3/4 players likely including Lombardozzi and Ray. Bleh. God I hate packages like that. Almost all the mediocre prospects in the deal end up becoming nothing. Remember the Cliff Lee trade a few years ago? All trash. I would always go with one quality prospect over three to four mediocre ones.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 http://www.communityadvocate.com/2013/04/30/115-2/ Even Fatcow is probably older than this guy. Amazing. s*** he's as old as me
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Doug Fister is a borderline ace. Washington had better be giving up four good prospects. If not, it's a steal. A "borderline ace?" I wouldn't go that far.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 @JimBowdenESPNxm Nats trade Krol, Lombardozzi and minor leaguer for Doug Fister according to sources Oh f*** off Bowden. Cotillo just reported the exact same thing.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 @ChrisCotillo: Again, unconfirmed. All I know for certain is Fister to #Nationals. But strong indications Ray and Lombardozzi are in. Krol maybe. You would also figure a reliever like Storen or Clippard. Still if this true, then great deal for the Nats.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 AA what the f*** man. Let's wait until we see what the return is before we complain about not topping it...
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 That's the deal man, tigers got raped without LUBE.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 lol people are funny Was just going to post this same thing too. What the f***, man? Ripping off high school kids. Very classy. That's the deal man, tigers got raped without LUBE. Hi Lou Pinella
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 A "borderline ace?" I wouldn't go that far. Maybe not ace, ace, as in one of the top elite pitchers. However, if you think ace as in a top 30 pitcher (30 #1s), it's hard to say he hasn't been. 9th in fWAR over the last 3 seasons. He's also averaged 195 IP over the last 3 years.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 It's not official who's coming back yet.. Pretty sure Bowden is reporting what he read from Cotillo lol I know bowden's opinions are s*** but isn't his sources legit?
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Um hello. Alex? Hi. Get off your ass and check the price on players before something like this happens again
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Lee trade? There were three Cliff Lee trades with only Justin Smoak having emerged! Carrasco, Donald, Marson, Knapp, Ramirez, Aumont, Gillies, Smoak, Beaven, Lueke, Lawson all going the other way. And Smoak isn't even that good anyway. This is going to be a steal. I'd have moved one of Stroman/Sanchez, DJ Davis, and more for Fister. Haha yeah there has been a lot of crap in Lee trades. The crap I was referring to was the Indians-Phillies Lee trade. I remember at the time, everyone was expecting two of Brown/Taylor/Drabek going the other way.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Okay Nightengale comfirmed it, WHAT THE f*** AA?
BabbaGanoush Verified Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I swear Krol is a reliever? I saw him pitch out of the pen last year.

He's been a very solid pitcher over the last three years, though he's not an elite No. 1 starter.
