apoc10 Verified Member Posted November 17, 2013 Author Posted November 17, 2013 I spin back to last year where the Jays were on the other side of the fence and were willing to give up prospects for established players. I know it didn't turn out well, but a lot of analysts agreed that it wasn't horrible moves and it definitely seemed logical. The amount they gave up in the trades was questionable, but it gives you a sample of what to expect. Let's look at what people thought at the time, versus looking back over the result, because hindsight is always 20/20. Dickey = D'arnaud, Syndeergaard, Buck. That's arguably #1 and #3 prospects in the system, and two in top50'ish for a one time Cy Young, pitching in NL with a unique pitch. It's quite interesting, but even looking back when we gave up Roy Halladay, the amount of prospects given up was huge. I know pitching is more expensive than hitters, but I think two elite prospects is worth it. Johnson, Buerhle, Reyes trade for Marsnick, Hecch, Nicolino, escobar, Alvarez, Descalfini and this one is much tougher to quantify because of the salary dump involved, but the package was able to obtain 3 of top 10 prospects with mlb ready pitcher in Alvarez and another up and coming prospect. I think coming from our side, some people agreed to sacrifice some prospects for a chance to win the world series and the Cardinals although just came back from a near world series, they have an even better chance with the team that they could put together. I even scouted a few of the Cardinals message boards and they are definitely willing to give up quite a bit to get a single impact player like Tulo or even Reyes. Imagine if we offered Reyes, Bautista, Janssen and Happ.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 At pitching, sure. But in a keeper league I'd rather emphasize hitting. You can build a rotation on the fly, and hitters are safer assets. I'll take Crush/Freeman over Prince/Rizzo any day, and I'll take Miggy over McCutchen.
apoc10 Verified Member Posted November 17, 2013 Author Posted November 17, 2013 Not sure if you've been on other message boards before but, when you post a thread like this on the Blue Jays Message Board you are opening everything up for discussion. Discussion includes positive things about what you said, and negative things about what you said. Just because Randy has a criticism of what you have posted, doesn't mean he's dumping on your thread. Criticism is fine in context.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Dinger should pray to all the saints for Cuddyer remains at Coors field. Donaldson is a question mark (roids??) That's not my lineup, this is. C - Gattis 1B - Crush 2B - Carpenter 3B - Miggy SS - Desmond CF - Gardner/Bourn OF - Craig OF - Torii DH - Freeman
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Mauer isn't a catcher. Holliday > Choo I'd take Choo over Holliday. Choo is a Top 5 OBP asset and contributes in all cats.
TRM Verified Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 I'd take Choo over Holliday. Choo is a Top 5 OBP asset and contributes in all cats. I could live with that, but No49 used the dreaded "three greater than sign" claim, which I hadn't even used for Hanley and Lowrie.
TRM Verified Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 We must be judicious, because the Normans absolutely obliterated the three Darrells last year in terms of average DDL finish and we don't want to weaken ourselves. We shall discuss.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 He's my arbitrary BPT/2LS pick 'em. Mauer >> Salty Rizzo = Cuddyer Kipnis >> Prado Beltre > Donaldson Lowrie << Hanley Cutch > Adam Jones Kemp << Stanton Choo > Holliday Fielder >> Rios It's a pretty even matchup and they're both easily Top 3 offenses. Pitching is a thing though, and 2LS has a vastly superior staff.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 What are you going on about? This has nothing to do with the DDL. Start your own thread. Once a thread gets hijacked for DDL rosterbation, don't even bother trying to get it back.

Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 I would say dinger is the favorite going into next season, with about three or four teams close enough to be competitive and steal it in the playoffs.

TRM Verified Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 I would say dinger is the favorite going into next season, with about three or four teams close enough to be competitive and steal it in the playoffs. Let's be honest, the playoffs is a total clusterf*** of luck and injuries and early shutdowns anyway. The goal should always be to just make the playoffs, and then you hope for the best. That's why i am remarkably proud of my "President's Trophy." (I realize this sounds like I am disparaging your title, I am not. I'm just pointing out that all you can really do is hope your team shows up for three reasonably arbitrary weeks at that point.)
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 I hope Chris Davis falls off the face of the earth this year. I'm projecting him for like 36-37 HR, I don't think anyone expects him to repeat. If he does, you're probably all f***ed.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 I hope Chris Davis falls off the face of the earth this year. Can this please happen.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Angrioter, you got relegated from the PL. You don't have the bona fides to comment on DDL business. This is all, easily, two leagues above your head. I'm a good talent evaluator and a great negotiator (Win-Lose guy). I was second in the League 2.

It's true. The playoffs are completely unpredictable. My ultimate goal is to create a team that is a perpetual playoff contender because anything can happen if you consistently finish in the top 8.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 I hope Chris Davis falls off the face of the earth this year. That will happen, without doubts (Brady Anderson 2,0). That's what I want.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 http://cdn.arwrath.com/8/84626.gif I can see it now... Angrioter: Alfonso Soriano for Mike Trout Me: Trout is a once in a generation type talent who is still only 22 years old... Angrioter: I throw in Bruce Chen.

Ironically, that was basically where jaysblue was trying to sell Alfonso all year...
Funky Verified Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Profar. You build an infield and an offence around this guy in 2 years. We should go after him full bore. Cheap, 5 tool prospect who is MLB ready.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 For fantasy purposes though he is next year Ang. And Holliday is definitely > Choo, maybe its an =. Saying Choo >>> Holliday is the epitomizes a stereotypical No49 comment though. It's quintessential No49, really. He's pretty delusional. I dunno why he craves recognition so badly, to an unhealthy degree.
BarrysSyringe Verified Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 This deserves 1000000000 thanks for saying this. The amount of people saying we shouldn't trade for Profar is too damn high. Not only do you build an infield around him, you build a franchise around him
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 That's exactly how it would go. I never even came close to even considering one of his PL offers two years ago. Actually, I don't think he was able to make a single trade. Ang update. -Donaldson + Melky + Scutaro for Cudduyer + Desmond + Mujica -Beltran for Aaron Hill -Joe Kelly for Nick Franklin

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 I hope Chris Davis falls off the face of the earth this year. Also, hopefully Matt Carpenter falls off the face of the earth as well…both of those guys were incredible last season.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 With Jurickson Profar, Elvis Andrus and Ian Kinsler, the Rangers have a wealth of infield depth. The Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant reports the Rangers could very well trade one of those players (with some top prospects also working their way into the picture) to fill other needs. "We have three guys at the Major League level and two guys at Double-A [Rougned Odor and Luis Sardinas]; it would be irresponsible not to consider it," general manager Jon Daniels told Grant. "Will we ultimately make a deal? I really don't know. Teams are getting the lay of the land, see what's out there and make a decision." AA do it
