The obstruction call will overshadow-it but Farrell blew this game.

Which is unfortunate because I want to see Farrell get roasted but doesn't matter. f*** the Red Sox.

On his sprained foot, Craig probably would have tripped without Middlebrooks lying there.

I'm actually kind of surprised Craig even advanced to third much less home.

I think the Cards made this game closer than it should've been. Unbelievable how badly the Tigers and Cards have played against the Red Sox, they must be intimidated by the beards.

Oh man the butthurt Red Sox fans are gonna be funny

Here are some of the responses so far. Nothing super funny yet.;)

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MIDDLEBROOKS WAS TRYING TO CATCH THE BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

WHAT ... they called him for interference LAYING ON THE GROUND?

... how in the H*LL can they call that???? what a BULL SH*T call

MIDDLEBROOKS WASN'T EVEN IN THE BASELINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry but that is not obstruction!!

interference ? nope? duh.

what's he supposed to do .. amputate his legs?

BUT CRAIG DIDN'T EVEN TRIP OVER HIS LEGS! HE DIDN'T EVEN TOUCH THE LEGS IN THE AIR HE JUST TRIPPED OVER HIS @S-S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was about as stupid a call as the Jets gift.

Then if that's the deal than how the h*ll is Middlebrooks supposed to pick himself up?? That is nowhere near the neighborhood of obstruction.

RS -1 ... Cards 1 ... umpires - 1 ... apparently Middlebrooks is not allowed to be alive in on the field or it's interference

What was middlebrooks supposed to do????????????????????????????? He's laying on the ground because he was trying to catch the ball??????? he literally could not POSSIBLY have moved fast enough to get out of the way and CRAIG WAS NOT IN THE BASELINE!!!!!!!!!!!! middlebrooks was completely beyond the bag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can't call obstruction if the fielder was in a position that resulted from him trying to field the ball or throw.....total BS

Umps making themselves the story.

Congrats, Cards. Somebody in blue management likes you.

another win by the cards cheating. the umps want the turds to win the series.

It could have gone either way IMO. Middlebrooks did have a good reason for lying on the basepath (fielding the throw), his placement there was inadvertent. It's then about the leg raise Middlebrooks made, and I'm not sure if that's enough. There's not much in terms of precedent.

The thing is, obstruction is undeniable and I don't think intent is necessary for the call to be made. On the other hand, the Cards didn't deserve to win this game, they did all they could to blow it so I'm kind of torn.

Oh man, golden. I can't wait for all my friends (all Red Sox fans) to freak out.

Watching the MLBNetwork feed just now, they showed an example in the rulebook that follows the rule, and the example was exactly what happenned here lol. Case closed. You might hate the rule, but its the rule. too bad. so sad, boston.

That was obvious interference. Good let the tears from Red Sox Nation flow. f*** you Boston and f*** you Farrell. Hopefully St. Louis can wrap this series up in two days.

The MLB rulebook mentions one example in the obstruction section it states

OBSTRUCTION is the act of a fielder who, while not in possession of the ball and not in the act of fielding the ball, impedes the progress of any runner. If a fielder is about to receive a thrown ball and if the ball is in flight directly toward and near enough to the fielder so he must occupy his position to receive the ball he may be considered "in the act of fielding a ball." It is entirely up to the judgment of the umpire as to whether a fielder is in the act of fielding a ball. After a fielder has made an attempt to field a ball and missed, he can no longer be in the "act of fielding" the ball. For example: an infielder dives at a ground ball and the ball passes him and he continues to lie on the ground and delays the progress of the runner, he very likely has obstructed the runner.

I picked a heck of a time to go to the washroom...

Looking at the replays, it's obvious it was obstruction. I think Craig would have also been easily safe at home if it hadn't happened even with his bad legs.

Obvious obstruction. f*** the cheating Red Sox - first Lester's doctoring of the ball in Game 1, now this. And f*** Farrell for encouraging cheap tactics like that. So glad Jim Joyce actually had the balls to make a crucial call against the Sox.

Their OF next year is gonna be like Holliday-Jay-Tavares isn't it? Doubt that interests them.

Can I haz Kolten tho? :( Seriously dude can play. #analysis

How brutal is it that he went one pick after Beede?

This is true. Go back to the foul hr that Pedroia hit where the cameras clearly showed that Farrell knew the ball went fould and he went to argue with the umpires to make them review the play just to disrupt Scherzer's rhythm so yeah, f*** Farrell.

Just think over all of our last few 1st rounders besides 2012. Jenkins, McGuire, Cooper, Snider, JPA, Beede, Bickford. Ugh

Red Sox supporters will complain about the obstruction call but the real beef they should have is the Beltran hit-by-pitch that eventually scored.

shutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutup go away I don't like this

Bickford isn't someone I'd throw in there though because I still think that AA had no intention of signing him and was keeping the pick for a second pick next year which I like.

Well the bar I was at was filled with Boston Haters..fun times. But that loss is all on Salty..imagine what would have been the reaction had JP chucked that ball into left field during the playoffs
