Why Colby Rasmus Should Be Considered One of the Games' Great CFs

Nice little article summarizing what Rasmus has done this year. Don't like the fact that he rounds it up to BABIP stuff but I liked this tidbit on the HR/FB regression argument.

Although, ESPN’s Home Run Tracker considers just three of his home runs to have “Just Enough” distance while the other 19 were no doubters or had cleared the wall by “Plenty”.

Didn't realize that about Colby. I know he has great power but 17% HR/FB is pretty high, wonder if he can keep it up.

My favorite part was probably when a -0.0 appeared in a table.

Rasmus is extremely underrated. He really is a similar player to Adam Jones, who get's so much hype in Baltimore.

Colby did have a good year and the author did a good job illustrating that, but the argument that this is his true-talent level is severely lacking.

"Maybe a .356 batting average on balls in play isn’t outrageously high and maybe 2012 was the fluky year... another interesting point is that Mike Trout’s batting average on balls in play over the last two years is .379. Will he be able to keep that up? It is as much a question for Trout as it is for Rasmus."

Rasmus' career BABIP is .298 over 2663 PA. That's what he can be expected to perform at going forward. Granted, the K% will also probably regress positively. Trout doesn't hit pop-ups and is an 80 runner... his .379 is legit, and has nothing to do with Rasmus.

I'd probably project Colby to hit .245/.305/.450 next year. Not bad for this offensive era, but not close to 'elite'.

I think JFaS did a regression on Colby's wOBA and it came out to around .340, I'd take that.

I'd say maybe .255/.310/.460 if we're pulling numbers out our asses.

Yeah I thought the same thing. He had a great year, but his previous two seasons were well below-average. I'm definitely not willing to call him a great player.

Depends on how you define great.

Yeah i am not ready to proclaim him as a great CF, the guy has 0 stolen bases and can't throw a baseball nor hit a cutoff man. It's pretty scary when you let a guy like this set up your defensive alignments, no wonder this team is terrible defensively.

Seriously? Colby is a very good CF. He has great range and advanced stats are very kind to him

If you want SBs lets play rajai full time in CF...on second thought..f*** that

You don't need to convince me. Colby had an impressive season and its to bad it got cut well short. I don't think we have seen the best of him yet. Hes got unreal power and its look so easy when he powers balls out. For him its all about staying consistent. Hes going to keep putting up great numbers. 5 WAR player.

He was on pace for 6.3/600 PA this year.

Silver lining: Mediocre 2012 and injury shortened 2013 might save the team $$ in arbitration or contract extension

“WAR? I think it’s kind of a silly statistic. I don’t even know what factors are involved. I remember reading about it a while ago and seeing that you can lose points for the position you play. I don’t understand all that stuff. If I was to look at what I think helps wins games, it’s run production: RBI and runs scored. OPS is a powerful stat, and stealing bases, and defense. That’s what I would look at. It’s fun to analyze that stuff, though.”

Colby "f***IN" Rasmus!!!

He is now one of only four Blue Jays all-time to hit 20 bombs in back-to-back seasons (the others are Vernon Wells, Jose Cruz Jr., and Lloyd Moseby).

uhhhhh Edwin? hmmmm Joey Bats?

Unless any of James/Tango/Nox/North49/Me just signed a 5/90 deal, then you are correct.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, but I think I'm going to hang onto Urias.

Probably a good call for you anyway :)
