jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Time machine might help. The reason you aren't getting a lot of discussion about who will help this team is that so many on this board don't believe in the front office and we have so few trade chips that aren't huge parts of the team. Things this team will do next year: Add a starter, Macier to 25th man and make a decision at catcher. Hopefully they have a little more depth which was one of the issues this year. However, I still don't think this is a playoff team. If we want to make this into a playoff team I believe they have to trade producing, well-liked veteran players and deal with the consequences at the box office . An even bigger priority this off season is talking extension with Rasmus, if he won't sign you have to start looking at his market. Stop this dealing with one year ********, start running this organization properly and looking at next year and the future years. I agree as well that this team isn't a playoff team next season with the same group. I don't think they'll be this bad, though a lot of things have to go right for this team to win 90 games. This offseason, the team needs to add an impact starting pitcher. I'm sure Garza is out of their price range and I doubt a veteran like Kuroda would come and pitch in Toronto. I'd focus on bringing in someone like a Tim Lincecum or Ubaldo Jimenez - both have had solid years and should be durable enough to give the Jays 200 quality innings. They likely won't require a 5 or 6 year deal worth $90 million like Garza might demand. However with a thin market, Ubaldo or Timmy might get more than anticipated. The Jays also need to bring in a solid catcher, which should be at the top of the list. This team is really only built for 2014-2015, so they only have a two year window to contend since they still have all their main guys like EE, Bautista, Reyes etc all under contract and they should still all provide value over the next year or two until they start to significantly decline. After that, this team is in deep trouble like you said.
kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Come on guys, we upgrade JP to an actual major league catcher and we are a whole new team...I'm waiting for the catcher spot to be decided before I predict anything next year. It is beyond belief how bad he is at everything baseball related. I'm wondering if it's mathematically possible to have his OBP drop below .200 cause that would be epic. He would have to not get on base for just over 70 more PAs to do that. He's not playing today, and will likely only play maybe six more games this season. If he gets four PAs in each game, and doesn't get on base in any of them, his OBP will drop to around .220.

Cliff's notes version: When its this low already, its hard to get lower.
