Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 WTF do you expect from a middle infielder in his first two weeks? The problem is, you're cherry picking a single stat that doesn't properly represent the value of his offense to the team (and that's to say nothing about luck or small sample size).
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 omg You guys are funny. I'll take a hit per game from our second baseman who plays above average defense.

I don't know about all these stats nowadays, but i've always thought a .290 average from a middle infielder is a positive. From an offensive position, then that's a different story.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Well lets look at the #,s Goins is 25 years old has played over 500 games in the minors has a career 706 OPS with no speed . Meh hard to get excited and the only reason some are is cause we had revolving s*** at 2nd all year . All about what we want to go for next year , a playoff spot or the first pick in the draft . AA isn't going to rebuild this offseason so we have to A) get a catcher , Get a starter and C) get a 2nd baseman and above all improve the defense
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Sierra is killing it. lol
kgm1 Verified Member Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Buck , you need to add that Sierra is also brain dead as a baseball player

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Buck , you need to add that Sierra is also brain dead as a baseball player if they can figure out how to have Sierra's brain connected to his ability he'd be amazing, but the tech for that operation is a couple hundred years away

From an offensive position, then that's a different story. If player A has a .250 average and walks 75 times, and player B has a .290 average and walks 20 times, which do you think is more valuable to the team? The problem is, simple stats like batting average don't tell you stuff like that (and it gets even worse with power vs no power). It's not about the average, it's about the total offensive contribution. Now I actually think Goins may eventually be league average offensively, but you can't just take one stat to determine how he's doing.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 What a play there from Goins. It seems like he makes these type of plays every game he plays. A treat to watch.

His minor league #,s suggest he will have to play stellar defense to be a utility guy

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 He's one of the dumbest players I've ever seen. I have to agree. Sierra's baseball IQ is scary low.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 He's one of the dumbest players I've ever seen. I,m going farther , He IS the dumbest player I have seen Edit for the spelling Nazi
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 I,m going farther , He IS the dumbest player I have seen Edit for the spelling Nazi Whenever people talk about stuff like that, I can't get the image out of my mind of a ball bouncing off Canseco's noggin for a home run.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 It's funny. JP has a personal catching coach for 2 weeks and he starts receiving and throwing better. Who would have thought a coaching might actually help?
kgm1 Verified Member Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 lol I'm not a big believer in his bat, but it feels like he'd have to absolutely rake to erase what will surely be awful contributions defensively and on the bases. I,m still out on the bat , he missed so much time that he may just be a slow developer and yes he has an arm but He makes little league type mistakes . I have coached high school kids that had better fundamentals . I just don't see how his coaches could not drum it into him in that amt of time
